Bummer that the shave with the R41 ended up a bit rough. It happens to the best of us. Sometimes the best shaves are the ones where you don’t try all that hard.

Great report and photo, though! Keep posting!

    Razor: Rex Ambassador
    Blade: Astra SP (1)
    Brush: JR 151
    Pre shave: Stirling mentholated
    Soap: SC Wisdom
    Thayers Lavender
    AS: Fine Lavender

I couldn't wait until tomorrow! First shave with the Rex.

The razor is visually appealing with a nice weight to it. The handle is nice and grippy. It appears that the complaints of the earlier version have been rectified. Mine has no canting of the top cap and the adjustment knob takes a deliberate effort to move. The settings go from roughly .5 to 6.5.

I loaded a fresh Astra SP and set the razor at 6 for my first pass. Very smooth with plenty of blade feel. Effective first pass. It's an adjustable so I adjusted it to 3 for pass two. Again, a smooth efficient pass but with less blade feel. I did a Nick shaves style touch up with the razor set at 1. I started along my jaw, no blade feel at all. I thought my angle was too shallow but to my surprise the stubble was gone! Moved on to my chin and same results. Now my neck, which I know I should leave alone but set at 1 this razor is so mild I went for it. BBS face and just missed the baby on my neck. Just a tickle from the alum on my neck. This is the best shave I've had so far!

I'm really looking forward to spending more time and exploring the different settings on this razor. I'm not going to say that this razor has killed my RAD, especially after only one shave, but wow, I'm impressed!

    Have a great Friday gentlemen!

Sorry to hear about this, Chris, and I hope you feel better soon. I know even minor injuries to the sternum are some of the most painfully annoying ones you can have because it's connected to just about everything and any move you make jars it. Including breathing. You're averaging what -- about 10 pain jabs a minute just from breathing? That gets old really fast, so I hope you get better fast too.

Great photo and report, Jim! Congrats on the razor! The Rex and the Karve are two razors I have been trying to ignore while on NB'18... Gee that razor's shiny...

Thank you John. I admire you guys sticking with your no buys.

I have read nothing but glowing reviews of the Karve, here's to 2019!

    Hello everyone.

I somehow messed up yesterday's post. I couldn't even edit it to include the Italy photos. So, I'll try again here. I plan to go another round with the Fatboy on 5 this morning before heading out to meet a college buddy today. We're planning to take a bourbon distillery tour, have lunch, and do whatever else strikes our fancy. I'll call later if I need bail money. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday.

Ha! I gained around 15lbs with #1 child. 31 years later, I think it's gone.
