I have two of his recent soaps, one from two years ago and one from this year. The newer one is a better formula. Both are extremely thirsty, but perform very well if I get enough water in them. His scents are good, and are way stronger in his aftershaves than in his soaps. I've found a few scents from him I really like, and several I didn't. I do plan on ordering a tub of Dapper Doc as soon as I use up a few of my other soaps.

Nice picture, Joseph! Have you tried the Crown King base? I enjoy the PAA base well enough, but just find the Crown King to be better. Glad you got a nice lather out of the PAA, though.

    Razor: F2 Gillette 195 Adjustable (5)
    Blade: Gillette Platinum Plus
    Brush: Generic Chinese Synthetic
    Cream: Simpsons Luxury Cream
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

It's Fatboy Friday and the Platinum Plus blade is still going strong. This was the second lather with the $2.50 "Defect" synthetic brush; it is also hanging in and no issues lathering the Simpsons cream. I was a bit worried that I would anger the Shave Gods by lathering a cream from a distinguished, 100-year-old brush maker with a cheap Chinese synthetic, especially when I set the razor down wrong under my chin and I felt the bite of the blade. Surprisingly, the slip resulted in little more than a scratch. All told, a great end to the week.

Great report, Adam! Comfort of the shave is paramount. I've found with my Gillette adjustables, 7 seems to be my "go to" setting. It's comfortable, and it accomplishes the same grade of shave as setting 9, yet does so a bit "better". That's the best I can explain it, but it seems to mirror your experience. It's as if there's a breaking point, and for me (and the razors I own), it's anything past 7. Go with what works - and is comfortable.

Excellent photo and setup! What a cool brush - and it doesn't get much better than The Sheep!

Today’s shave was a weird compilation of learnings and confusion. I will list them haphazardly in no particular order:

    1. I’ve held off on saying much about my Karve, since after all it’s just a pretty brass blade holder. Also, I had only shaved with it a couple times, which to me is too early to make a judgment call. Today I put a Feather in my Karve with a D plate, and I’ve got to say, this razor really benefitted from the sharper blade and provided a super smooth shave. Overall, the razor is beautiful, well made, and more than worth the price paid for the quality you receive, IMO. I also have determined that some Flitz and 5 minutes of polishing is time well spent, and really brings out the guilloche pattern on the handle.

    2. Previously, I’d said in my soap reviews that Oleo was the only soap I’ve encountered that irritated my skin. I like the soap a lot, though, and wanted to give it one more chance before jettisoning the three samples I have. Today, no such irritation. Weird. I wonder if I just had a dud/bad blade paired up with them before. Not ready to make the call yet.
    3. The plague is not over at our house, but appears to be slowly subsiding. Hoping to crank up productions on the Shaveys, finish filming this weekend, and get everything sent out next week. Fingers crossed.
    4. More soaps arrived for the review thread. Stay tuned...

Thanks Jim, no I haven't and with my soap count having already reached epic proportions, :scared003: it's unlikely I will.
