A very good shave is an excellent way for me to start the day. The Soapy Science is easy to load and lather with a citrus scent that I enjoy. Two passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect shave with no drama. The girls stocked me up with some new aftershaves and Myrsol Limon paired well with the Lollipop Citrus. Felling refreshed and smelling great I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

In addition to the size, there is a difference in what style of knot you choose. A 24mm fan knot may have similar "coverage" as a 26mm bulb knot. In addition, you might pay close attention to the handle style/size. Let's face it, if a 24mm brush is ergonomically friendly, you will have more enjoyment using it. I have sold 30mm (CH3) brushes, because they were simply too large and ungainly, whereas I have a few 24mm brushes that are a real pleasure to use. Funny, I used to think I only wanted 28mm knots, but often times they stand there on my sink just staring at me, whilst I gravitate towards the 24-26mm. Trial and error is the order of the day.

Gold Dollar "Vintage 2017" (Gold logo, Olive wood scales)
    Gold Dollar 66
    1953 Gillette Tech w/ Gillette 7 O'Clock Permasharp Stainless
    Palmolive shave stick
Satin Tip The Purest (22mm, Corvette Class)

I decided to do a test shave with the two Gold Dollar razors I honed last week. I threw caution to the wind and did the first full WTG pass with the straights(BTW this was my first straight shave ever!). Did the left side of my face with the Vintage '17. The blade cut well and felt pretty comfortable. I was able to wipe away lather and whiskers with ease. I did nick myself pretty good on the side of my lip but other then that no blood was drawn. On the right side of my face and neck I felt that the GD 66 wasn't quite as sharp at the '17 and it had a little bit of hesitation when cutting the whiskers. I did a cleanup pass with the poor little franken travel tech. Have a great day my friends!

Congrats on your initial straight shave! I tried a while back and didn’t take a shine to it much. Great setup with the Palmolive.

Riga’s are really cool razors. I have put in a few of those same bids on them, but never any luck. Congrats!

Very nice shave. I really like the Soapy Science also, and honestly like buying stuff from a neighborhood lemonade stand type of operation. I think the backstory is super cool.

I find it to be right up there in the big leagues as far as lather, my only real con, and it’s small, is loading. Hannah’s Dad said it was intended to be a harder soap so as to have better longevity, ala (I inferred) like a triple mill. Thing is, when I weigh the tub after loading, I seem to be using the same amount of product per shave as my go to brands, which are much softer and easier to load. MAJOR first world problem, cause it’s really, really good stuff. I give it the Unicorn Seal of Approval.

    Sage.

I was a 26-28 guy for a while. I currently have brushes anywhere from 19/20 to 32, that I get excited about using when they are coming up in the line up.

With this set-up, what could go wrong? Answer: NOTHING! :happy093:
Starting with my bloomed Williams, which by the way, is fully molested à la @GDCarrington method; grated, menthol crystals, boiling water.
I heartedly endorse this method and will continue to fully molest my 10 remaining vintage pucks. Sorry, @wchnu
The softened soap loaded with ease, saturating my Chubby :shocked002: which then built copious lather in my Aesop SS bowl.
More added H2O in the equation resulted in a lovely, glistening mass of mentholated goodness.
The 2nd use Feather (my favorite of the 4 shaves that I will get out of this blade) combined with my Senator,
was like Dick Button in his heyday. (You youngsters are going to have to google that one)
Kept the Senator fully tightened down, determined to find the correct angle, which I did.
Excellent aural feedback from the Gillette and buffing abounded.
Finished with the Old Spice Burley and now I smell like George Lazenby.
Not that I have ever had my nose close enough to actually know what he smelled like. :p (just in case some of you were wondering)
