You betcha; and my RAD proves its effectiveness. :scared003:

  2. So all the discussions on the forums about blades, aggressiveness, metal, finish, shaving soap/cream, quality of build are all pointless because every razor produces the same results. That means you'd have to be a compete wombat to buy an ATT razor for $300 when a $2.99 razor will produce exactly the same results?

No. But it means that if I had to go the rest of my days with ony one, I would get an excellent shave every day. No matter which one it is.

Sure. And the whole world should only drive a Honda Civic.

To be sure, it is fun to try different things. And for me, it's rewarding to own and use equipment that is well made. "Better" equipment, however, won't necessarily guarantee a better shave, though. In fact, I'll step out on the limb and say that the cost of a shaving item has very little to do with the quality of a shave. If I had a $3000 set of golf clubs, I might enjoy owning them, but I still couldn't play golf...

  6. And that's why the world's best golfers use $100 set of golf clubs because they've realised they're all the same, why waste money.

I believe it, but I don't know anything about golf. I do know that a Parker 99R ($30) loaded with an Astra SP blade ($10 for 100), an Omega Boar brush ($10), a stick of Arko ($1), and a dab of shea butter ($20 for 16 oz. - I use the good stuff :) ) will provide me with months of some of the nicest shaves I can get. It's not the most fun stuff to use, but it really does get the job done.

All razors cut as close. The blade slides along the skin. How much closer can you get? You have technique issues. Until you correct them you can change razors and blades all you want and never get better shaves.

    Golf:Shaving = Apples:Oranges, no?

Personally I have a bunch or razors because: 1) I can, 2) I take interest in the engineering and aesthetic differences, 3) I enjoy the nostalgia of the vintage razors.

I'll admit that I have my favorites but I really don't think any one of them results in my getting a better shave.

A good ole' Civic would probably last longer than 95% of the cars on the road.

I have a gillette super click that can be had for a few dollars. It will give just as good a shave as a $300 ATT. That is a fact. People buy the highend stuff to say they have it. It makes them feel better I guess. It does not in anyway do a better job. Anyone who says it does is an idiot.

    Agreed.

Golf and shaving both involve some level of technique and some investment in equipment.

Sure, I have one myself. And me, my wife and three girls will fit, in a pinch. But I won't be selling the van.

  14. I recognise I need to improve my technique (I said that on an earlier post).

I'm having a hard time believing all razors can give the same shave. That means same bbs smoothness and stubble appearing at exactly the same amount of hours afterwards on all razors (pause... pig flying past...unpause)

Everything I've read on this forum begs me to differ.

  16. You too. I do appreciate the comments and banter. I'm sitting in my garden in 28°C, eating a BBQ.

I would modify that slightly to read: "Every razor has the POTENTIAL to produce the exact same results."
Assuming that the razor is not a lemon, or broken, or whatever.

IF it can hold the blade still, even and securely, and the user is
competent, it can and should give you a BBS shave. Naturally there are other factors. User incompetence (not throwing stones), dull/damaged blade or poor lather.

Many of us are "collectors" and I count myself as one of them. I try not to be stuffy about it, but I have always enjoyed amassing things that I like.

Here's a good example. A great chef can make a gourmet meal using a cheap (but sharp) knife and cook it to perfection in a $10 pan.
