Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

    Nice looking shave, Keith!!

Very nice travel setup, Brian!! I'm glad you had a great trip - and thanks for sharing photos of your grandson!!! He's a cutie!!

Best of your luck with the journey into straights! I'll be watching, with interest....maybe, someday, not too far off I'll embark on that quest too. ;)

    Nice setup and photo, Neal!!

Well this survey has legs to be exciting!! At first, popsicle charged out of the gate, looking like he might blow away the rest of the field, but now Sane has caught up and in fact is neck and neck with the ice-cream. This could be a thrilling 29 days!!!

Man, lots of Fran-say in that video!!! But the manufacturing of it is good to watch and learn.

    July Focus: 2011 R41/Vintage Williams

Day 2 and I am definitely going to be challenged...

NOT with the Williams, face lathered an amazing amount of silky, mentholated, creamy lather to shave a small regiment.
The Semogue Mistura is wonderful. While this brush is relatively soft out of the gate,
there are a few uppity boar bristles that will take some taming. In due time.
Now, I never thought that I would say this, but Williams, even tallow Williams, is not the slickest soap out there.
Today was day 4 with the Personna 74 and "usually" it is still slip-sliding away. Not in the R41, however.

Got bit on the neck, where I have a sub-cutaneous cyst. Very small, but it's been there a while. My dermatologist said it would have to be cut out and while I don't usually tolerate growths on my skin, this one doesn't bother me. Until a blade nicks it.
I can go over that same spot 100 times with every razor in my den, but pull out the R41 and boom, it's nicked.
Not the end of the world.
Slight reddening on the rest of my neck and the Alum score was a 3.5.
Decision time...do I (as I am wont to do) shoot for a daily BBS or stop after the second pass and be satisfied with a DFS?
I am leaning towards the latter. If I am going to survive another 29 R41 shaves, I have to do the following:
    1) Go even lighter with my "touch"
    2) Focus on removing the lather, not the stubble
    3) Ride the cap!!!
Ironically, I know all of these principles; preach them to newbies; yet following my own good advice sometimes escapes me.
Clubman Special Reserve is one of my favorites of the line of products.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the semogue. I like the mixed knot I have so much I decided to give this one a try.

  13. I'm looking to improve my technique this month using:
    Muhle R89
    Personna blades
    Trumper silver badger brush
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream
    Trumper sandalwood skin food

Today's shave was trying to take advice from another forum on riding the cap using no pressure. This worked remarkably well. The shave wasn't BBS, but acceptable. No pain whatsoever from the alun block. The jawline remains somewhat raspy and some patches on the neck, but I'm happy with no razor burn or nicks. I did two passes plus some touchup just to get started this month. WTG, ATG. I might try three passes tomorrow including XTG. I'm resisting the urge to over shave areas of my face!

    Monday July 2

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Nacet (1)
30DC LE Maple Cashmere synthetic brush
    Fendrihan Lavender Sandalwood soap sample
TSD Milk Aftershave Lavender + Sandalwood mix

My first use of a Nacet blade. It was sharp and smooth as I expected from other people's comments in these threads. I did a "one and done" pass today and ended up somewhere between CCS and DFS -- certainly as good as I usually got from my electric. I mixed splashes of my two TSD aftershaves in my palm to match the scent of the soap, providing a pleasant finish to an easy shave.

Hope everybody has a good week and a good holiday, whichever one you celebrate in July.

Alright!! You made your way over here, Simon!
Sounds like a good shave, and they're gonna get better. No cuts, nicks, or irritation is always a good thing...

Jim does that mean you orders the Semogue? I’ll admit I looked at it again last night.
