Razor: Rockwell 6s Blade: Nacet Brush: Stirling finest Soap: Van Der Hagen (not sure which one) AS: Chatillon Lux Unconditional Surrender I suppose my focus for the month will be the Rockwell. I got it recently, but since I had Jared’s Supply SE razor on loan, I stuck with that for a bit. Now that the Supply has been sent back, I’m picking up the Rockwell for awhile. Most of my shaves for July will be with it - maybe not all of them, but most. I see a bunch of you fellas are trying to kill off some soaps, so maybe I’ll at least try to dent some of mine, if not finish one. Aside from a few samples, I’ve never finished a soap. First up is the Van Der Hagen. This was my first “real” shaving soap. A year and change later, it’s still hanging around. It’s a good soap. It won’t win any awards - however, it works well, and the price is great. I still can’t decide whether it will be replaced once it’s gone. Part of me says it will, yet there are soooo many great soaps out there to be tried. I would certainly recommend it (and have) to someone new to the hobby. It’s cheap enough that, if they don’t like the process of lathering, they’re not out much. Plus it has such a neutral, clean scent, making it perfect for someone who doesn’t want scented soaps. Two passes and a little touch-up…wonderful, smooth shave! A little CL aftershave to class things up a bit… Have a great Monday, fellas!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Thank you. The Rocnel looks cool but has a real chance of biting me every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
July 2, 2018 Razor: Canadian pre-War Gillette Tech Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum (1) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: Der Vergulde Hand Post: Alum, Listerine, WH As I mentioned yesterday, last week I acquired a Canadian Khaki Set with a Canadian pre-War Tech. Today was my first shave with it. I've been wanting to get one of these for a while, though the reputation for them being the most aggressive Tech was concerning. Jason suggested, however, that I would love it and I did. I wouldn't call it aggressive, just nicely efficient and smooth. Looking at the Canadian and US versions side-by-side, it seems like the Canadian one has a slightly thicker cap which, I suspect, makes for a nicer shave.
Paul, I didn't see any therapy dogs today. They could well have been there today. I just didn't cross paths with them.
July 2 G3 Gillette Fatboy Astra SP (1) Kent BK4 Silvertip Le Père Lucien - unscented Thayers Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Coral Skin Food I purchased the Le Père Lucien shave soap about three years ago, used it a time or two initially, and it has since sat in storage. I was very pleasantly surprised this morning. The soap loaded easily using my super soft Kent brush, even though it is not the best brush for loading a soap. I face lathered it into a thick, slick, and protective lather. I can't remember any shave soap loading as easily, and the lather was simply top notch. I will really enjoy using this soap. The metal container is large enough to load a brush properly, but it is small and comfortable enough to hold in the palm of your hand. When the soap is gone, this is one of those containers that I'll clean up and keep for another soap. The only downside is that the soap is unscented. I'm willing to bet that LPL comes in some pretty nice scents. I'll try adding a few drops of aftershave to scent the LPL lather just for fun. I loaded up a new Astra SP blade and enjoyed a nice two shave this morning. It was pretty much automatic. Stay cool!
Thanks Andrew. It looks like a winner. It's kinda pricey, so it will be interesting to see how many shaves I get out of the container.
SOTD July 2nd Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap Schick Injector J1 Personna 30DCLE (26mm, Frigate Class) Dry Dock Lather Bowl Stirling Glacial Lemony Orange soap and AS I'm off work this week and I've been waiting for my Stirling package, it finally arrived! It's been a hot day here and my chores are done so why not cool down with a frozen Stirling teat! Cold water and lost it menthol were the theme of the shave. Really really like the scent of Lemony Orange. I get the sweetness of the orange in the foreground and the tartness of the lemon poking through here and there. My first glacial shave and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (my eyes only watered a little), I guess I built up my tolerances with Iced Pineapple. I also realized that I haven't used an injector in a while so the j1 got drafted this week. Have a great evening my friends! Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
