Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

My shave today was the same setup as yesterday (except the AS - I substituted Chatillon Lux "2018" for the Clubman), so no photo. Nonetheless...I am smooth, smooth, smooth. Another error free, gluten free shave! :D

I wish everyone a Happy 4th of July - or whatever you might be celebrating...even if it's just life itself. Be safe, have fun, and enjoy the day fellas!! :)

A wonderful shave to start day. The PdP soap loads and lathers easily with a very enjoyable fougère scent. Three passes and touch ups had the baby in sight, so throwing caution to the wind, I went with a 4 pass on my lower right neck and caught the little guy. I had planned to use Myrsol Balsamica but my wife reminded me that she had given me the matching aftershave balm. The balm scent is the identical fougère scent and left me feeling smooth and refreshed. Happy Independence Day to those that celebrate. I hope everyone has a great day.

I did an "Omaha" and switched my choice from Gillette Foamy to Rise at the last minute. Stayed with the Aqua Velva, though.

    Happy Independence Day!

I'm still out of town and therefore haven't been too keen on taking shave pictures. Trying to finish off a sample of Stirling Iced Pineapple soap after finishing off the Lemon Chill. Great stuff!

Hopefully will be back at home next week and can get back into a routine. I'm enjoying the posts when I check in. Enjoy your day!

    July Focus

Returned to the focus gear today: Williams and the Mühle. You will notice many :angry019: 's in my report.
After yesterday's magnificent shave with the Ranger Tech, I was a little trepidatious returning to the Mühle.
Face lathered with the DG B5. This brush, if you just use the tips, is like a solid block of very soft fur. ZERO scritch. ZERO prickly bristles.

Nada. THE most densely packed brush in my den.
    Nice, wet Williams lather.
Still using the Personna 74, again, I have lost track how many passes are on this blade.
Today I was DETERMINED to ride the damn cap; and for the most part, I was successful. :)
Under the nose is IMPOSSIBLE riding the cap with a downward or upward stroke.

Only from the right or left, can you make blade contact there. My touch was so light, that I can still feel a few missed hairs. :angry019:
Still got a couple of weepers. :angry019:
This, of course, is frustrating, but I am here in this 30 day focus to figure this out and figure it out I will. :kar:
    Alum score: 3
Proceeded to drop my alum block on my countertop, breaking it into two large pieces and the rest into crumbles. :angry019:

This is the first and only alum block that I have ever purchased. It was about 50% worn away, nice and smooth; and now...:angry019:
I kept the two major pieces and tossed the rest; they were useless for me.
Burt's Bees Bay Rum has been sadly discontinued. I found this bottle on Ebay. The scent is a unique Bay Rum. I detect some sandalwood.
It's very potent and SWMBO is on the fence with it. ("On the fence" is a euphemism for "go for it") :)

Great photo and report, Joseph! I admire your tenacity in trying to figure out the R11. I've never used an alum bar but have read many instances of them being dropped and shattering. I have an Omega alum stick but much prefer witch hazel. Regardless, nice post as usual!

Wow, 22 pages deep on the 4th? So my focus this month is continued soap reduction and actually keeping up with the thread. I should be able to finish off the B&M 42 soap this month. I have enjoyed it, but it probably won’t be on the buy again list.

So yesterday was the first shave of the month. Used the Barbadol Floating Head, a vintage Wilkinson Sword, the big boar, Route 66 Sweeney Todd, and Stephens Island Lime aftershave. Great shave, but this razor demands a light touch. My shave was so good people were stopping me to ask me about it.

I apologize if this has already been said, I’m still catching up on the thread. 1 to 2 Spine widths from the face seems to be my optimal angle, although with small wedges, I lay them flat on my face. Be sure you are stretching your skin away from the way the razor is moving. I use Alum on my finger tips to grip soapy skin. Be careful not to be too tentative with your strokes, as that can make a dragging feeling like you described.
