Oh my gosh, it’s been so busy I don’t even remember the last time I posted a shave. I have a couple I would share:

    -Feather DX
    -Simpson Harvard H2
-CRSW Morning Ghost Soap and AS

I got my prize winnings from CRSW, and just want to give a thanks to Larry for doing such a great giveaway. The Harvard is a super classy addition to my little Simpson family, and the Glide base is pretty amazing. Morning Ghost is a very vetiver forward scent, so I love it.

    -General SS
    -Semogue OC w/Taj handle
-Stirling Glacial Lemony Orange Soap and AS

The new resin handles on the Semogue are super cool. They look really nice and have a great heft and feel. I am glad I have neglected to get an SOC until now, because I would not have bought this as a second.

    -Supply Provision Injector
    -Simpson Duke 3 Best
    -Oleo Soapworks Excursion
    -Stirling Sandalwood

My Supply razor made it home from its vacation back east, and with it were a couple of items, one of them being this beautiful Duke 3, that was gifted to me by Bruce. The generosity behind it is overwhelming, but based on some chatting we have done, the thoughtfulness behind it is more so. It is a brush that has been on my list for a while, and I am super excited to add it. The Oleo was also a gift, and a soap I hadn’t ever tried. The scent is a cologne type, and the best description I can make is that it’s warm without being heavy. My wife loved it also, so perhaps a splash or balm is in order. It’s a duck fat base, I believe, and made an exceptional lather. Very shiny, very goopy. Because of the container, I started it in a bowl and finished it on the face. It was a pleasure to lather with the Duke, and it will take all the water you want to throw at it. It’s a very stable lather. It was a stellar shave this morning.

Shari and I were out fishing most of the day. We actually had a very nice time, and caught more Pike than we could keep count of, but for a while, we were literally being harassed by these stupid little bluegills. Trolling four inch crankbaits in twenty plus feet of water. We couldn’t keep the damn things off. Too small to eat, and the time it takes to get them off, it just screws up your trolling pass. Shari took this pic, because she thought it was funny how annoyed I was.

    July 4

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - kai-stainless.jpg (1)
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Staying aggressive so a switch to the Fatip Piccolo. A truly amazing, fantastic, incredibly effective and fun razor to use - and yes - it will bite if you don't give it enough respect and attention. I chose to pair it with Japanese Steel. Kai, in this case. I've always liked the Kai DE blades as an alternative to Feathers, and their Artist Club blades are equally good as well. Since I didn't do a head shave last week I'll be using my Kai pain stick with a Kai blade tomorrow night to take care of two weeks growth.

As for tonight, the JR46 turned Soap Commander into its normal flawless lather and two passes and touch up brought out the baby. Alum was just a touch warm but no problem at all. I love using aggressive stuff. In fact, I recommend it!

Fireworks are going off around us like it's a war out there tonight. Happy 4th everyone!!

Thanks, Jared. I’ve said before -so I apologize if you’ve heard it already- but the brass top is actually a tool ferrule that I glued to the wood inside. The knot is encased in the wood. I had 2 ferrules, and made a second handle with the other one that I sent to @Keithmax.

Nice combo, Andrew! Have you used that new soap enough for a good opinion?
It cleaned up very well, Fuzzy. Congrats!
I see them once in a while around here in the wild but have never bothered pulling the trigger.
Nice pic, Patrick. Hope you’ve recovered from Grad!
Some really stellar set ups there, Jared. I’m pretty jealous of the fishing boat, though. It looks to be in great shape. No bugs on the lake, either?
Great write up, Neal. As I recall, you have Fortitude and Vision as well as Courage. Which of the SC scents is your favourite?

I did not take a picture today, I used this brush today. It is a mini-focus for me as I am breaking in the boar knot.

    Thursday shave

Woke up late due to a few too many glasses of wine the night before. Since I did not strop a straight last night I just went with my 2011 R41. I was have an excellent shave and on the last stroke going ATG on my upper lip, I gave myself two small nicks.

    Irritation A Closeness A+

    Razor: 2011 Mühle R41 (Iridium Super )
Brush: Handle by Jason, Omega boar
    Soap: DR Harris
AS: Fine Snake Bite AS, Stirling ASB
    Scent: Acqua di Parma Colonia

Well, today was my worst shave. Face is fine, neck is not. I worked out the growth direction on my neck which requires a ear to Adams Apple direction. Trying to achieve that proved disastrous. There was way too much resistance and the Alum block suitably punished me for my foolishness.

So a question: How to you shave against the grain when it is too sensitive an area to cope with it?

You might try only going with and across the grain on your neck for a while. Lots of us have sensitive necks, and this is what I do. After a bit your skin will get used to it a bit. Also, especially when going in a bit awkward angle, the blade angle gets a bit difficult to maintain, so make sure you are riding the cap and stretching your skin. Don't worry about BBS, as this can cause irritation.

Thanks, Jason. We love the boat. It’s a 16.5 Alumacraft with a 40 HP Yamaha we bought in ‘15. It’s my retirement boat, I just bought it while I am still working, and can pay for it. With no wood on it anywhere, it will outlast me. Nothing fancy, but it’s set up the way we want it, and the best part is no carpet. Between night crawler bedding and Northern slime, boat carpet can get gross pretty fast.

There weren’t any skeeters out, but the deer flies were kind of bad.

    wchnu Duck Season!

All of the different models shave great. You should grab one. If you find one of the A2 or A1 jump all over it.

Best answer is don't. With the grain and across the grain should clean things up great. Too often folks push for that little extra. Not usually worth it. It will grow back out in a few hours anyway right?
