    Morning, all.

My flight seems to be on time... for now.

I haven't had the time to package and mail out the PIFs I did, so I'm packing them in my suitcase to mail from Florida.

Tracy and Shep - you guys are both still waiting on packages from me. I'll send those out first thing when I get back (I'll send them out on the 2nd). Sorry for taking so exceptionally long with them.

    How is everyone doing?

:D I never mind talking about razors. :D
Ranger Techs were the first of the superspeeds. They were made in 1941, but production was halted shortly after it started because of the need for metal for the war. To me, they seem slightly more aggressive than the late 40s superspeeds.
Chris has an excellent write up on rockets that I believe is sticky'd in the safety razor forum, and I can not offer more real information than he can, but I can tell you why I like them. I really like the build quality of the English razors I have gotten to try. They seem more solidly built than their American counter parts to me, and they just seem to operate in a more smooth manner. There are also fewer around, at least in these parts. I also love that there are so many little differences, makes for a fun hunt. :) For some reason the normal Rockets and Parats seem to feel less aggressive than a superspeed, but paired with a feather or a 7 o'clock they are extremely hard to beat. The HD rocket is just a thicker version of the rocket, that weighs more. (unless you find an aluminum one) It kind of gives you the heavier feel that you expect from an Aristocrat or the likes. The weight combined with the Rocket head, and the solid feel really make for a great razor. Anyway, I am not sure how much detail you are looking for, but if you have any questions, I am always happy to talk about my hobby. :D

That helps a lot, thanks Rodd.
I'm going to try to thin down my collection to a few I really like my 40's SS that I got as a PIF, looking to upgrade that to a nicer one, and put the SS back into PIF circulation. So I am looking for candidates to replace the SS with. It's a great shaver, but a bit too mild for me so I was thinking one of those three, Ranger tech, Rocket or Rocket HD would fit the bill.
I did pick up a flair tip Rocket from Chris after reading his write up, but I like the style of the the earlier models.

Morning Dom! I knew Rodd would chime in on razors:) Rodd, if you could chime in on the 7 oclocks in the general section. Guy from sweden is hacking up his neck with merkurs and feathers:( I gave the 7 oclocks a plug. Thanks to Rodd, I have an incredible Rocket and a cool shave brush!

    No problem at all.

I am on my way. Those Sharp Edge blades are amazing.

Awesome! I am honestly considering trading away all of my blades besides the 7 o'clocks, as they are really all I use anymore. I tried an Astra Superior again the other day to see how it compared, and while they are great blades, the 7 O'clocks just work for me.

Rodd if you have any of these for sale I'd be interested
Ranger tech, Rocket or Rocket HD. Based on what you said I am guessing a ranger tech, or Rocket HD would be preferred.

Next, open, vs new vs new improved, I know you chimed in on the thread across the ways, but the more I see it the better it will be pounded into my head.
and is the bostonian just a silver version of the new improved?

There are three basic types of 3 piece open combs, the old type, New Improved, and NEW. They differ in their head design.

The old type head is basically a curved piece of metal with the teeth cut in to it. I know there is more to it than that, but that is the best way to explain it. There are a lot of models of old types.

The New Improved was the next type, it had a machined head that allowed for a different angle and a bit of blade gap between the blade and the comb. The Bostonian is a model of New Improved, as is the Tuckaway.
The New Standard is basically the Bostonian in a different case. There were several sets with that same razor in them, but they had different names due to the sets they came in.

The NEW is where they stopped using the pins to hold the blade in position and started using a bar that fits in that slot down the center of the blade. They are machined similarly to the New Improved, and there are quite a few different NEWs also.

My personal favorite is the New Improved. I am partially biased because they have my birthday printed on their handles, but I think they probably offer my favorite shave also. Incredible razors, and I highly recommend you give one a try. If you would be interested in trying one before you buy, shoot me a line. I will loan you a Tuckaway.

I don't currently have any Ranger Techs or HDs that are spares. I just have one of each. I did see a HD for sale for $40 though and I can send you a link if you would like. That is a great price.

yeah, you can't blame him though. Sounds like he is suddenly having a hard time keeping them in stock.

thanks for the loaner offer of the tuckaway. I have a new improved and a new on the way already. :D

Sure if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the way of the HD I'd appreciate it.

I think the price increase was more due to the drop in the GBP vs the dollar,
but yes demand for the blade has seemed to have gone up quite a bit too.

Morning all. Quick check in before my brother and his family show up today. Today is the day we are celebrating Christmas so I won't be on much.

Dom have a safe flight and don't worry about my stuff. I have plenty to get me by.

Bong, Rodd and Shawn--how do you guys like the 7 o'clocks? Are the the permasharp or the sharp edge.
