Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

A much better shave this morning. It is amazing what difference a better night's sleep makes in our morning routine. Reef Point Tranquility has the same scent profile as C&S Oxford and Cambridge with peppermint over lavender. However tranquility has much more peppermint and actually profits a cooling sensation while shaving. Through 3 passes everything was going just perfect. When touching up my lower right neck, I managed to nick myself with the corner of the blade. I know some round the corners on Gem blades when using them in the Rocnel since it has no corner guards. I might need to think about doing the same. Despite the nick, I ended just short of catching the baby with a smooth comfortable shave. A splash of Fine Lavender and I am off to work. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Great progress! I don't switch hands with a DE, but I do with a straight. If you think it will work, for you, go ahead and try it. I'm another big fan of wet lather, BTW.

Good stuff, Neal!! Seems like a nice relaxing shave, with some great gear. Oleo makes some excellent soap, too.

Awesome looking straight, Keith - and the brush is mighty fine as well!

I switch hands with a Straight, but don't know of many folks who do it with a DE. I also don't do a lot of skin stretching with the DE like I do with the straight, as I find a get more than an adequate shave with a DE with minimal skin stretching.

I did not find this to be the case early on, though. You have already seen good progress so far. What you will find is that your shave gets better and better over time when you stick to the basics. You can't really explain why it's just an intuitive improvement that happens over time, improving pressure, angle, etc. I'd stick with what you are doing and give it time. You are on the right track and seeing good results so far.

These two statements may or may not be related. :eatdrink047:(Said from one weird shave dude to another, brother!)

I was weird long before the shaving thing came along. At least that's what hundreds of family members, friends, and coworkers have told me. :) I hope you and MacKenzie are feeling better!

    Well done, Simon!
The flatter, the better. Wet lather is also a good thing - that's when slickness comes into the picture.
Switching hands? Nah. I've tried it, but it just felt awkward. I'm sure I could get the hang of it eventually, but found that I don't need to. There are videos where some guys switch up, and that's completely fine. If you can pull it off, go for it! It comes down to whatever you're comfortable with, and gives you the best results.

Thank you guys. Andrew, the SE-G is the perfect razor to keep me humble. It seems to punish my smallest mistakes more than any other razor I own.
