July 2018 July 8 Razor - Qshave (6 - setting OMG) Blade - (2) Soap - Stirling Mountain Man Brush - Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum Day two with the Qshave on 6, Ladas loaded up, and another fine Stirling product to whip up with the JR54. I'm not sure how much more luxurious this could get but I'll keep trying day by day. This soap always takes me back to a time when I wore a daily cologne that has a very similar scent. It's a really pleasant and easy to take scent and makes the shave all that much better. As far as the actual shave - I once again found the baby on two passes and very little touch up. With the gap this thing has, throw in a sharp blade, get your angle and just pay attention. It makes for an incredibly aggressive yet smooth and fun shave! If they'd make this razor out of brass instead of zinc I might think about turning it into a daily shaver! Monday arrives soon for most of you. Have a great start to your week out there!
Not like salmon, no. A big Rainbow, basically. You can’t keep the really big ones anymore, and have to get a special licence to keep any. For eating, I actually prefer Kokanee, which are in the same lake systems. Basically a small, landlocked Salmon- redder meat and spawners.
Today's shave #21 on the British Wilkinson Super Sword Edge blade. Full shower prep and the results reflect it. Back to the BBS but the blade is tired so I won't be skimping on the prep anymore like shave #19 (that was awful). Plisson synthetic, Tabac soap, Nivea balm and Tabac cologne. "Mr. Clooney, Mr.Clooney.....could we have your?"..... "Why certainly, no trouble at all. I'd be happy to. So who do I make this out to?" It happens so often, yet I never tire of it. I don't have the heart to spoil the moment for them and disclose that I'm not George, I just look exactly like him.
July 9 SOTD: Razor: Gillette Blue Tip Blade: Polsilver Brush: Razorock Plissoft Lather: Barbon Aftershave: Barbon Additional Care: Osage Rub Stirling Unscented PSB In yet another sign I have entirely too many razors, I used this blue tip for this first time this morning. Nice and smooth. I definitely noticed the lightness of the razor, but still got an excellent shave. Two passes and a DFS. I noticed last night the cap on this tube of SC is broken, so I guess I will have to use it up. I hope everyone has a great day!
Love Mountain Man! I'd be hard pressed to choose between Mountain Man and Executive Man as my favorite Stirling cologne scent. Excellent photo, Jim! Aside from the lightness of the Blue Tip do you find it to have less blade feel from the rest of the Super Speed family?
SOTD July 9, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Personna Razor: Schick B1 injector Brush: JR #60 synthetic Soap: Stirling Iced Pineapple Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill aftershave Enjoyable shave to get this week started. I'm working on finishing off this sample of Iced Pineapple and really enjoy the cold blast from the Glacial Lemon Chill splash. This setup works really well for me. Back to some normalcy after being on the road for most of the past three weeks. Back to work today getting ready for the first student groups to start rehearsing on Thursday. It was a short few weeks off! Have a great day!
SOTD July 9th Gillette English Flat Bottom Tech Gillette Platinum Plus Yaqi Mysterious Space (24mm Finest Fan, Frigate Class) Route 66 Cranberry Citrus Stirling Glacial Satsuma AS Splash This week I decided to give the English Flat Bottom Tech its first at bat. Figured that I might as well use a vintage blade too. I started with a Gillette Thin Blade (L2 date code) but time must have not been kind to is carbon steel edge because it was rather tuggy. After a couple of strokes I swapped it out for a vintage Gillette Platinum Plus stainless steel blade and it, like most its modern St Petersburg cousins, was sharp and smooth! Its funny how the community get hooked on new products and conversations about the hot products of last year seem to die and never get revisited. With all the new artisans and upgraded soap bases on the scene I still have yet to use one that is more then marginally slicker then Route 66, the post shave feel is top tier, and the scents are amazing with excellent strength. The shave with the FB Tech was also fabulous, rivaling the quality of shave that I get from any one of my modern razors. I did two passes this morning and ended up with a high grade DFS, not bad for a razor and blade that are about 50+ years old. I finished with a healthy splash of Stirling Satsuma with glacial menthol as it shares that same sweet-tart vibe of the R66 Cranberry Citrus and of course I needed my daily dose of menthol. Have a great day my friends!
Thank you, Andrew. Give me a few more shaves with it to confirm, but it does feel like a little less blade exposure. I can see that I am going to have to have a grand shave off with all of them at one time. Do you think it's possible to use 8 razors in one shave? In general, all of these razors shave so similarly, to me the differences are very small.
July Focus It's going to be abbreviated posts for a few days (weeks?) I am moving my 85 year old mother into an assisted living center and I just drove her down from Cleveland yesterday, so until she is completely settled in, I am pre-occupied. No shave yesterday, so today's R41 shave was MAGNIFICENT. The R41 is THE best every other day razor and while I will continue to use it everyday this month, the shave experience is COMPLETELY different with 48hrs growth. Can't explain it. Just is. I do not do ANYTHING differently. Today: ZERO nicks; ZERO weepers; ZERO Alum burn; Simply perfect. BBS in 2+ passes. If I got this experience with this razor everyday, I would be overjoyed. I am hoarding my top-shelf Bay Rums until the West Indies has recovered. May be a while. The Grand Bay Bay Rum is produced by the same people that make Dominica. Very similar.
