  1. Shaved Siliski Soaps against Soapy Science today. Both really good soaps. I'm waiting on some samples from Silisky before ranking them as the scent of Midnight In Tunisia is not my cup of tea. Finished off with Chatillon Lux - Bon Vivant AS. Good stuff. Also, after spending some time with the Karve and Rex this month, I'm still partial to my Fatboy. All are great razors, all give different experiences, but it's just really hard to beat the DE shave of a Fatboy for me.

    Nacet (8)
Simpson Commodore X3 - “Ol’ Shedder”
    VDH soap
    Stirling Orange Chill Witch Hazel
    Old Spice (the new stuff)

Still hitting the VDH soap. It’s reducing, but there will still be quite a few shaves before it’s gone.

I thought that - just maybe - I’d get away without any shedding from the brush today. It didn’t drop any hairs during loading or lathering. However, as I was rinsing and drying, I noticed two loose hairs that pulled right out. This has become a “mini focus” of sorts…seeing if the shedding slows drastically or stops.

I had begun the week (starting Sunday) with a Voskhod blade. After three days, I switched back to a Nacet that I used for the previous week. It seems that the Voskhod is a very smooth blade, but not quite as efficient as some of its Russian siblings. It’s not that I don’t get a great shave with them, but it seems to take a little more effort than some other blades, such as a GSB, for example.

For any of you guys who have used, or do use the Voskies, is that a fair assessment? Are your findings similar, or do they differ? Bum blade possibly? Sharpness not quite what some others offer?

Nice, smooth results…followed by some Stirling Orange Chill, for some coolness…then a good dose of Old Spice to wrap it all up.

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Gillette English Flat Bottom Tech
    Gillette Platinum Plus(2)
    Ever-Ready H40
    Cella of Hagen Street
Baxter of California Shave Tonic and ASB

The Flat Bottom Tech may perhaps be the best of Breed. I havent shaves with the Post War Tech in a while but if memory serves me the Flat Bottom is a bit more efficient while still being a very mild mannered Tech type shave. Got a super shiny slick lather out of the frankensoap, which at this point I think I am picking up more Jeeves then Cell on the brush as I work my way toward the VDH Deluxe base. The knot in the H40 is super stiff so I find that I have to bowl lather and then paint on the creamy goodness. That's OK with me because I get consistent lather throughout the shave that way. Three pass BBS out of the EFB Tech this morning, Very Nice! Finished with the Baxter Duo and my face feels great. Have a great day my friends!

  10. Great shave Bruce, I also feel that the Voskies aren't quite as sharp as their Russian brothers.
  11. Nice pic and report, Bruce!

Voskhods don't get along with my coarse grey stubble. The work but they do tug. I haven't tried them in all my razors yet, just the Rex, Blackbird and Timeless Bronze.

  15. Thank you, Gentlemen.
  16. Pity about that brush, Bruce. I'm risking wrath from @NCoxSTL and the rest of the Moscow cartel, but in general, I'd put most all of the St. Petes Gillettes I have -Nacet, Polsilver, AstraSP, PermaSharp Super, Wizamet, 7 O'clock Supers- ahead of the still very usable Voskhods. Only the Astras and sometimes Nacets are as cheap as the Voskhods, though.
Sounds like you've found a winner in that English Tech, Andrew. Congrats!
  17. Catch up post.

7-7-18 30DC inspired shave. Got the Oleo Soapworks El Caballerro as a gift from @Douglas Carey, the Omega Badger Puro Tasso brush as gift from Mark @Boojum1, and the Barbersol Floating Head razor from Brian @mrchick. The Holy Black Whisker Whiskey aftershave was the second aftershave I purchased after joining the 30DC, and I never would have thought of using 40 year old English Wilkinson Sword blades without this group. It was a good shave.

7-9-18 Grabbed my first boar brush, which is softer than either of my badgers, and kept on with the floating head and English Wilki. The 42 soap is on its third ring of death, so should be finished this month if I don’t get carried away with the blood on steel soap. Another good shave, and one of my favorite pictures I have taken.

7-11-18 Realized I haven’t been using my straights much. Grabbed my favorite Genco, a 5/8 square tip with rosewood scales and an aluminum spacer. Used the smaller boar because it’s easier to get into the soap container. After a good blooming, loaded the brush like crazy. Was rewarded with a slick and awesome lather from the Purple Rain. Going to miss this scent when it is gone. Three passes, and an awesome shave. I don’t get as close a shave on my neck with straights, but the comfort is worth the little extra time for stropping. Finished off with the 2x Iced aftershave, and a DFS shave was had.
