I innocently stopped by a local watch store to check out some nicer automatic watches in an effort to make up my mind for later this year. The sales lady was showing me a lot of watches she pulled out a Tissot V8 Quartz Chronograph. I had no intention of buying but the price she made was too good to pass up. So I decided to reward myself and keep researching my automatic watch purchase later this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This one is just a battery powered quartz watch. I want an automatic watch which is basically a self winding mechanical watch with no batteries. Given the cost in making the movement they tend to be more expensive than quartz watches. They also are not wear and forget as much as quartz watches. Here is a write up that explains the different watch movements. Watches are a much deeper rabbit hole than shaving. http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/static/watch-buyers-guide/watch_movements.do
July 11th Razor: Rex Ambassador (3) Blade: Perma Sharp Super (3) Brush: SOC mixed Pre shave: Stirling mentholated Soap: Shannon's Soaps Etherea Thayers Lavender AS: Shannon's Soaps Etherea Good evening gentlemen! Another excellent shave tonight. Near BBS. I ordered the Timeless lather bowl the other day, I wanted it for travel. The shipping was more than the bowl! So of course I added more stuff to my cart to get free shipping. Can't argue that logic. Anyway, new soap and aftershave added to the collection. Shannon's Soaps Etherea. I get a nice citrus and lavender up front with more complex scents in the background. I struggled a bit getting it to the consistency I like but once I got it there it was slick, protective with a nice post shave feel. Have a great night! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Very cool. I am a one watch kind of guy. Casual or formal it goes with everything. Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
I have a few automatics, nothing crazy. My most often worn is my Christopher Ward. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
July 2018 July 11 Razor - Soviet Consul Adjustable (9) Blade - (2) Soap - Soap Commander Courage Brush - Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum Well, for the past several days I've had what has to be a record run of excellent shaves for me. Nearly perfect. At some point I have to ask when the first disaster is going to strike. And how, exactly, would I describe a disaster? A barely DFS? A couple of nicks or weepers? A missing ear or nose? Such questions are still just theory after tonight's shave. The Consul/Sputnik was again right on the money. Soap Commander was its usual incredibly slick and cushy self with the JR54, and the finish - while perhaps not quite BBS.....close enough to not even worry about it. I actually got a bit heavy handed on a couple of strokes so left a bit of touch up at the end. If the baby isn't here it's my fault, not the gear. Excellent shave that sets me up to look good and feel good about doing some runs tonight. Have a great evening! I'm not off until Monday from my day job so going to enjoy some time with the wife tomorrow then I'm ready to meet those of you who are going to be around. I also have to decide what razor to use while everyone is here. Hmmmmmm. Suggestions?
Greetings! This week's shave: Barbasol Original Gillette 195 Adjustable (1959 model) Feather Hi-Stainless (1-3) Alum Proraso Eucalyptus AS Been preparing for a trip, first to meet with some of you, then on to my friend George in Kentucky. I've had a busy week, but spirits are high... Need to give a shout-out to @wristwatchb (Charlie). I am not totally sure if he meant to call me out on some bravo-sierra that I'd been flinging about the world of late. He's clever like that. But I felt that he did, because that's what's real friends do, whether you've actually met them yet or not. I listened. It's why I've been a little quiet on here lately. So, listen to your friends, they might see things you can't sometimes. Charlie, TSD is the good thing that it is because people like you stay here. Thank you. So, until somebody posts a pic of me on the forum come Saturday night... All is quiet in Colorado. Have a great Thursday!
Well played, I like the way you show restraint. That should hold you over until you buy a new automatic watch. I am big fan of automatic and self wind watches too.
Thursday Shave Probably my last post, at least with a pic because I will be travelling to the big 30DC gathering. 30 days completed with the MMOC. Back to a standard two pass shave. I have to admit I'm getting a little antsy to get back to something different just to mix things up, particularly the custom Gibbs Adjustable HD that @twhite cooked up for me. I was fortunate to stumble upon a shop that let me have 200 BIC Chrome Plats for $15, couldn't resist that. My former manager, now married to a buddy of mine fixed up a great Khmer papaya salad for lunch.
