SOTD June 26th Gold Dollar 66 Shumate 3o @Jayaruh Woody w/ Gem Stainless Palmolive Classic shave stick Satin Tip The Purest Another day of edge testing. Right side with the GD66 left with the Shumate. Both were very nice, able to wipe away the lather and whiskers without hesitation. I think in a general sense that I would like my edges to be a bit crisper. I don't know if this means I should spend more time on the finishing stones or more time in the lower grits. Did my first full WTG pass with the straights and saw no blood. Then I did a clean up pass with the Woody which proved to be a very exceptional blade holder. I was surprised that the optimal angle was a little bit off the "clip". Have a great day my friends!
SOTD June 28th Gold Dollar 66 Jayaruh Woody w/ Gem Stainless(2) The Blades Grim "Cinder" JR #134 (24mm, Frigate Class) Woody did a fabulous job on clean up duty again!
Jim @jimjo1031 if you are ready I will be sending woody your way this weekend. If I recall correctly you address has recently changed. Can you please confirm your address in PM ?
Sorry, forgot about this. Had a couple shaves with it so far with the CVS/Accu Tech blades. They were BBS in three passes. Going to do a couple more with Treet carbon blades and see if any difference.
The Woody has arrived. (Phrases I never thought I would type on a shaving forum for $400, please.) I will give it a go tomorrow.
Three passes, a little touch up, and I got a BBS. This thing weighs nothing, so I had to focus on skin stretching and no pressure, while keeping the stroke firm. Prior to this shave, I had never finished a shave with a GEM style SE razor. Part of that, I think, was the blade. My face didn’t get along with the stainless blades I had, and whatever coating was on them. The treet carbon blade was smooth and wonderful to use. Thank you for the opportunity to use this razor. I will try it again on Thursday, then send it to Perry on Friday.
Last shave with the Woody before I send it to the next stop. Jim, @Jayaruh, I am glad I got the chance to try this razor. It’s well made and works well. I palm stropped the Treet Special Carbon blade before clipping it into the razor. Razor held the blade well, and my normal three pass shave was followed by some touchup and buffing on my jawline and neck. No blood, and a high grade DFS shave. My only gripe on this razor is a minor one, that technique can overcome. Because it’s so light, it did require some pressure in my trouble spots to get the whiskers. Perry, @PLAla, can you PM me your address?
Gentlemen, the Woody has arrived! It actually came in yesterday but I wasn't able to open the package until today. I'll use it for tomorrow morning's shave. Looking forward to giving it a try!
SOTD August 1, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: GEM PTFE Razor: Jayaruh 'Woody' SE Brush: JR #60 synthetic Soap: Country Club for Men Cahaba Blues Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Tobacco Bay Leaf aftershave Wow! What a shave. This is a great razor. Beautiful aesthetic considerations and craftsmanship. The razor is light but the longer handle allows you to change grips some to apply a little pressure where needed. I used a PTFE blade from my den and it all worked together really well. I didn't know what to expect but am really pleased with how it turned out overall. I'll give it a few more shaves this week before sending it on. Thank you for the opportunity, @Jayaruh!
