Thanks Clint. Yes, it's a great soap. I've barely made a dent in the puck even though I'm using it daily, so it will be around for awhile.
Thanks, Jason, for the kind words. I echo your comments on the big Omega boars. I just love those brushes.
Sorry about your bum shave today, Jason. I had one yesterday...a handful of tiny weepers due to pushing it a bit hard on my neck. That's fantastic setup you have. My NEW SC competes with my LC for my favorite Gillette razor, so I love seeing those in action. The Semogue boar will break in very nicely with use. I found mine to be a little softer than my Omega boar. I also dig the wild look these knots take on as they break in.
July 2018 July 19 Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9) Blade - (1) Soap - Blood on Steel 30DC LE Brush - 30DC LE Post - Alum, Blood on Steel AS Head shave earlier in the afternoon and I decided the gear had been hidden long enough. I included the Merkur 23c, Arko and the VDH Boar brush in the picture for the day. Besides, having two setups in the picture let me get a wider angle of the screen from @Keithmax . It just classes up Cartel HQ in a way nothing else has. Not even the pictures of Natalia we have on the wall have helped. Shocking, I know. For the main event I want to stay aggressive but relive the meetup a bit so the setup reflects that. The soap and aftershave - Blood on Steel of course. And - the 30DC LE brush because never shall these two be separated. They were made for each other. For the razor - yeah, some of you probably wondered how long I'd have a Toggle in the house before breaking it out. Well, it's an adjustable, it has a "setting Neal" on it and I have one last Kai blade at the moment so it's time. The Toggle is a loaner from @Drygulch who graciously allowed me to hang onto it for awhile after he dazzled me with it at breakfast. The Blood on Steel soap, like other Jeeves soaps, lathered perfectly and provided a slick and very cushy lather. This scent is quite unique and subtle yet obvious. My wife likes it as well so I threw on a quick splash of the aftershave at the end. It's a bit stronger (and I was a tad heavy handed probably) but the result is a very nice BBS shave with a great skin feel and the very noticeable sent of the soap/AS combo. Two thumbs up from my wife, and two from me. We'll see how long it lasts and whether any passengers notice it later when I go out. It's great to see so many people buying up the Blood on Steel set and so far I've seen nothing but praise. Yep. A home run for sure!
Hey @Demidog! I've been hit or miss here in The 30 Day thread of late. If that was your 1st post, or you've been around a while, Welcome! I read another post of yours about Proraso products. I'm a user of several they offer and have a questions for you. After enjoying C.O.Bigelow shave cream I procured a tub of Proraso Green soap. Then the Green lotion. Recently a jar of the Green Pre-shave soap. I like the extra bit of slick glide the glycerin provides. I saw you're not a fan of the Green, but you are using the Red Pre-shave soap. Does it have a similar scent to the Red soap? Any menthol? Do you have the aftershave lotion or balm? If so, same question - is it a similar scent? Being a carpenter by trade I didn't think I'd enjoy wood scented shave products. Now I own several sandalwood soaps. I'm thinking that since I do like the performance of all the Proraso software I've tried, the sandalwood Pre-shave and AS lotion are possible future purchases. Enable me, Sir, please?
I haven't used the red soap, only the red cream, but the pre-shave scent is identical to the cream. Nope, that's why I went with the red pre-shave. The green has a lot of menthol and the white has a little bit, but the red pre-shave doesn't have any, which is exactly what I want from a pre-shave. I have the red splash, the green splash, and the white balm. The red splash is pretty close to the cream and pre-shave in scent, but maybe with a bit more musk. It's like if they took the regular red scent and went more of a cologne route with it. Very highly recommended. The red scent took a little while to grow on me because it's very earthy but I have the full set of red products - pre-shave, cream, and aftershave - everything minus the soap. The lather is thick and rich and part of the reason I prefer it in winter is the lack of methol compared to all of Proraso's other products. Sometimes I use the pre-shave cream alongside the aftershave to amplify the scent and for the added moisturizing.
SOTD for July 20, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: GEM PTFE Razor: GEM Featherweight Brush: Omega 10049 boar Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave The Fat behaved beautifully this morning. Slick lather that was wiped away with ease by the Featherweight. I used it for six consecutive shaves along with the same blade. I normally don't use a GEM blade that long but this one did fine. In fact I could probably use it some more, but I chucked it because I'm changing razors tomorrow. Trying to decide on my next victim for soap annihilation. I'll continue to do my best to work down my inventory, but with an order I placed yesterday at Italian Barber and the Shavey Awards I have increased my soap stock again. Oh well. Enjoy your day!
July 20, 2018 OneBlade Genesis V2 Modified Gem Thater Boar C&E West Indian Lime Myrsol Limon I thought the C&E would be done today. Close but no cigar. I’ll finish it up tomorrow. Overall a good shave. The Gem blade is tired and the shave was not as close or as comfortable as usual. I hope everyone has a great Friday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You wouldn't have to worry about either, unless you began singing it JUST AS Clyde clocks the cop. You'd have to wait for the ape to do that, and then for Philo to say "Onward". Any time earlier, and it's "Mess With Charlie" time. .
Excellent photo Jason, too bad for the dud blade. Sounds like a great shave, John! I just had my first experience with a Jeevs AS and it was very nice! Two great setups, Neal! Excellent photo, Perry! I'm sorry to hear about your home sale falling through, but I'm a firm believer that things like that happen for a reason. Awesome photo Clint! The Thater boar is really starting to open up!
SOTD July 20th RazoRock Wunderbar Gillette Platinum-Plus(5) Yaqi Evil Zebra (26mm, Frigate Class) Jeeves Of Hudson Street, Blood on Steel soap and AS First use of Blood on steel and what an amazing scent! I did my best to describe it here. Typical fantastic performance from Jeeves products! I managed to do my job this morning and maintained focus and a light touch with the aggressive, all stainless steel, RazoRock Wunderbar slant, and ended without any blood on steel and BBS. I finished with a splash of the BoS AS which has a very nice amount of menthol in it and left the house smelling great! Have a great weekend my friends!! TGIF!!
