SOTD for July 21, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: vintage Personna twin Razor: Schick L1 injector Brush: Restored Ever Ready 200T badger Soap: Soap Commander Vision Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Glacial Spearmint aftershave Stellar shave overall. Been a while since I used Soap Commander. Was reminded of the superb quality of their soap, particularly the post shave feel. Great products made by nice folks. The twin blade in the L1 was effective and amps up the L1 past its mild status. Quite nice all around. The only strange thing was the after shave. This was the first use of the Glacial Spearmint. I've had no reaction or any problems with a huge variety of after shaves. This spearmint splash went on and immediately felt warm.....really warm, almost hot. It's a glacial so it should be cold after a few seconds. It finally did turn cold as expected but the first few seconds were not all that pleasant. A warm, almost burning feeling. Maybe something in there doesn't agree with me? I'll try it again soon and see what happens. Otherwise, really a nice shave. Enjoy your weekend!
I am looking forward to receiving my E and F plates. It will be interesting to compare them to the D plate. Also, the razor is developing a nice even golden brown patina. I did have to clean off on water spot but so far so good. I am takin my time with this one and not using any chemicals to speed up the patina process.
I could add a few more...... I actually meant to quote a few more post but my tablet went stooped when we got to the point of shaving legs and soaking synthetics. For the record...it would take a bush hog to do that. Never been done. Just saying. Today got a veddy nice shave from the Schick F. Why does that count here you say????? Well the RazoRock Classic Shaving Cream Soap came from @BaylorGator as a shavey. First use of it was just great. The Semogue 208 was wonderful and a bit of Pinaud Classic Vanilla topped it all off. Great start to my work night. And a video if any one would like to seethe F in action. Veddy veddy nice. Thank you again Randy.....you da MAN.
Go to the soap page, there isn't a picture just a grey box when you hover over it with your mouse. Same with the AS. Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
It doesn't show up on a phone. There are links to it in the Meetup thread Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk
I just checked with Bryon, and it is sold out for the soap. He does have a few aftershaves left. He is planning on releasing the soap with a different name at some point, so you could get the LE aftershave now and the soap later. (Message him on his site for details.) I think he only made 40 sets, and someone in Delaware ordered 9 of them.
July 2018 July 21 Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9) Blade - (3) Soap - Wheat State Soaps Barbershop Brush - Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum, Wheat State Soaps Barbershop splash Third night for the Kai in the Toggle and I thought I'd change to a soap I've never tried. @Drygulch gave me some of the Wheat State Soaps Barbershop soap and AS to try. I know nothing about this soap other than the ingredient list shows it's a non-tallow soap and the scent isn't as "barbershoppy" as I really prefer but it's nice. By "barbershoppy" I mean how Stirling Barbershop smells, just to be clear. I used the JR54 to load and lather. Every time I use this one or my JR46 I am tempted to jump over and see what else @Jayaruh has for adoption. Oh the temptations. Anyway, the lather was easy to load and work up and is slick. Again, not "slick" like I really prefer (guess what that would be) but it's slick. It has just a bit of tackiness to it. Reminds me of how Route 66 feels to me. So...yes, it seems like a good soap. The shave proved that the soap is nice and protective and easy to shave with. Two passes with no issues at all, easy touch ups with no blood or problems and the alum was quiet. I went ahead with a bit of the AS to try it out and it was quiet as well. I went light and it added just enough scent to make a really nice finish. My face feels very good, finish is a BBS (or close enough) and I have no complaints, really. I'm going to do a bit of research and find out more about this stuff. Hope you had a great Saturday! Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Oh, and by the way, this weekend hasn't been nearly as much fun as last weekend. You guys need to hang out here more often.
