July 31, 2018 Karve E Plate Feather Simpson CH2 Synthetic Mike’s OCBP Myrsol Agua de Limon My new E & F plates arrived yesterday and I just had to give them a try. The D plate has a blade gap of 0.98mm with very little blade feel. So I was a eager to see the difference in the E plate with is 1.10mm blade gap. I stuck with my modified 2 pass routine and went right to work ATG. I could easily tell the E plate has more blade feel. Nothing scary but it is there. After finishing the ATG and XTG passes, I only needed to touch up my lower right neck. It proved to be my nemesis and spoiled an otherwise epic shave. I will continue to use both plates over the next several weeks and update my thoughts. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday. July 2018 Recap Another month in the books. With the new consulting contract I have gravitated towards using equipment that gives me quick drama free morning shaves. The Karve razor has really stepped up and proved a worthy addition to my den. In fact it is competing for my favorite DE razor. I managed to dust off 1 shaving cream and 1 soap during the month. I will continue to work on thinning out my soap inventory. As usual the best part of the month was sharing the camaraderie with other 30DC members. It is a rare thing to be able to share the daily ups and downs with friends known only through a forum thread. I enjoy looking at the SOTD pictures and reading the reports. Following along with the shenanigans is always a pleasant diversion. Again thanks for letting me be a part of the thread. I look forward to participating next month.
Nice recap, Clint. The way you describe the Karve is firing up my RAD. Have a great day. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Thank you Jim. Since the F plate has a blade gap of 1.23mm, I will likely give it a try on the weekend. They are supposed to add Stainless and Titanium to the mix over time. If that helps your RAD.
July 31 G3 Gillette Fatboy Polsilver Super Iridium (3) 30 Day Crew LE figured maple handle with 24 mm APShaveCo Tuxedo knot Le Père Lucien - unscented Thayers Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper Coral Skin Food Walmart Equate Sterile Bandages I enjoyed a nice two-pass shave this morning from the setup I've used all month. The Fatboy on 5 combined with the LPL soap has been a top-performing combo. Around mid-month, I switched over from my Kent BK4 to my wonderful 30 DC LE brush. I wasn't quite as smart as @mrchick this morning...or any morning, for that matter. I also mistakenly grabbed the edge of the towel and reached out to catch my razor. I didn't need all that extra skin on my thumb, anyway. Tools trump technique this morning. I have very much enjoyed following my 30DC brothers in the July focus. I'm always inspired to read about your learnings and exploits and to see your fabulous photos. Keep your fingers out of the line of fire, and have a great day!
Excellent summary, Clint, and your SOTD photos have been terrific. I have enjoyed following along with your razor and watch exploits this month.
Great shave report and photo. At least you still have good reflexes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you Charlie. I never knew watches would include posting another daily photo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On the watch forums, you will see WRUW (What Are You Wearing?) threads with folks posting their watch of the day. You'll be there soon enough.
Nice E3 Neal! That is a cool straight, Keith! Looks like an epic shave to me. Excellent Shot Clint! And great monthly recap! That is a beautiful Fatboy, Charlie!
