    Williams Mug Shave Soap
    Jayaruh #309
    Alumigoose
    Feather Professional
    CWR
    Aqua Velva AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Williams Mug Shave Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #309 synthetic brush. I did just one pass with the Mongoose Alumigoose Razor on loan from Redfisher with a Feather SS Professional blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Aqua Velva AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    Phoenix Shaving | Et Tu
Phoenix Shaving - The Green Ray | Tribble Synthetic
Ever-Ready SE | Delta Echo | Gem PTFE

If my scent memory serves, Et Tu is an accurate dupe of Brut by Fabergé from the 60s and 70s as opposed to the contrived saccharine contemporary. Even though Phoenix Shaving's splashes never suffer from longevity issues, Et Tu's bright and bold classic fougère has me trying to remember where I stowed my old bottle of the original cologne to prolong, if not legitimize the experience.

I've spoken about the Crown King soap base before. All of Phoenix Shaving's soaps use the same high-butter vegan base. It's simply in good company with the upper-level performers in the crowded artisan race. It lathers easy and fast with lots of volume but still dense and paintable. First pass slickness as well as residual slickness remain above average, but post-shave is better than most.

I'm one of the nagging voices that contributed to Phoenix dropping alum from their splashes. While I've heard the proprietor bemoan his assertion that the negligible alum content was unlikely to be causing the grief reported by some, writing it off as placebo, I for one am happy with the reformulation. I stipulate the benefits of alum in the wet shaving realm, but each time I used the splashes containing alum, my scalp and face lit up like a beet. Along with the resulting warmth, the redness would pass after 15 minutes or so. I just couldn't dismiss the consistent reaction as stigmata. The current formula still offers excellent astringency and then soft, silky, well-nourished skin. I can now use their splashes with abandon.

It's hard to dispute Phoenix Shaving's artwork leading the pack in the unique, wacky, and cool categories, but have you seen these new bottles? Is there anything out there in the artisan realm that even approaches these as regular stock offerings? The splash kind of outshines the tub, showcasing thick, textured, and heavy glass complete with embossing. Underneath the faceted Bakelite lid (You read that correctly---it's Bakelite---I confirmed it with the 'clink' test.) you'll even find a tamper-proof seal. There is no insert but rather a practical and effective orifice reducer molded from the glass. These are professional and classy in every way, and the bar has been raised.

I have to agree with the new bottles, they are awesome. I have avoided Et Tu so far, but I may have to look into it now. How is Tombstone?

    Yintal "Bronze"/Dorco Prime :: Elite Manchurian :: Wickham 1912 :: Lúcido AS

Still in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The Yintal continues to give efficient and smooth 2-pass shaves. Definitely my product of the year. Of course the Elite and Wickham's are outstanding and I enjoy using them regularly in my very reduced den. I've become fond of the Lucido's functional scent and soothing finish.

Merkur 37c slant just received yesterday, installed a feather (new of course) and got a wondeful 2 pass DFS on the mug :):).

    Witch Hazel wake up splash
    Homemade preshave oil
    For the brain cap
Razorock german slant with a Dorco ST 301, second use. (No I haven't moved up yet, but soon). Found that if I shave my head every day it only takes one pass.
    Amici soap
    Cheap brush that works great

    Finish with Nivea

My Wednesday SOTD - hope you like it:

    L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash
    Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
    Super Speed/Astra day 4
    Krampert's Frostbite SS
    Lucky Tiger AS Cream
    Krampert's Frostbite AS Splash
    Quorum EdT

BBS and well chilled - this Frostbite soap and aftershave have a very interesting scent which I like a lot. The soap is so easy to lather and the menthol effect, while not being a bona fide face-freezer is pretty strong. The aftershave is somewhat colder and it's very skin-friendly!

    Enjoy your day!
