My first custom straight, PRC western grind kami. This is such an easy to handle razor, always a pleasure to use.

Beautiful. That razor is in really nice shape. Two of my most favorite razors are both Maher & Grosh razors. Great steel, take and hold an edge for a long while.

Robert Williams has really upped his game, he is turning out some masterpieces now. I am very happy to see it is in the TSD family.

And yes nice cigars, did you smoke want to celebrate the acquisition?

Yesterday's shave was with this unusual French razor, a Charles Guerre à Langres rattler type. I have one other razor made the same way, an almost straight thin blade with a frameback style spine. It's thin, extremely light, and extremely stiff - and mowed down 1.5 days of stubble with ease. It also sports an etched finish popular in France during this period that the Japanese would call an ink pattern or suminagashi. It kind of looks like Damascus steel but isn't. Like the other razor made the same way, there's nothing to keep the blade from protruding out the bottom of the scales, so the lead wedge is curved, it actually hits the nose of the razor and stops it! The other razor's scales were totally shot so they were replaced by 3-pin scales where the third pin stops the blade at the tang.

This brand also has the distinction of being used in WW II by one William J. 'Wild Bill' Donovan, founder of the Office of Strategic Services which later became the Central Intelligence Agency. His razor is in the CIA museum here:

    https://www.cia.gov/about-cia/cia-museum/experience-the-collection/#!/artifact/95

The brand is not visible or noted, but a member on another forum emailed them and asked, never expecting a reply from the CIA, but lo and behold, in a day or two he got a reply describing the razor as a Charles Guerre. The museum razor looks a lot more like my Gelle-Frères than this one, and could well be I suppose, Gelle-Frères is a Paris drugstore and a century or so ago they sold straight razors with their brand on them but of course they didn't make their own razors.

Cream was the ol' reliable AdP lathered with a Simpsons 57 and D. R. Harris Pink made for a great shave.

    Cheers, Steve

Today's shave was with a Scheon Burg frameback, re-scaled in faux i ory with a dark green wedge by Stefan (mainaman). I use this one a lot as a travel razor because framebacks aren't that expensive by design and the steel is good and holds an edge. Cream was ABC lathered with a 3-band HMW and a little Lucky Tiger was the AS of choice.

    Cheers, Steve

Cohiba Maduro 5 Megicos is my favorite cigar from all that I've tried, but a bit pricey for daily cigar (for me) :)

Shell 13/16 Silver Steel, I Coloniali Mango Oil and a Simpsons Persian Jar 1 Best Badger with hair that looks and feels like Super Badger. A splash of Harris Pink finished off a 10/10 shave.
