  1. Boy you really messed that straight up when you dropped it the other day! Banged it up so much it looks like a DE!
  2. August 2, 2018- Astra August

    Razor: Gillette New SC
    Blade: Astra SP (2)
    Brush: VdH Boar
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Second day with this combo. I remembered to use a lighter hand which still gave a great shave but no repeat of the weeper or irritation.

  4. Thank you, Jim!

2nd day of Adjustable August with the SA-84/PermaSharp combo. Decided to play with the settings a bit, a la @Primotenore, and dialed it back to 3. Had 2 1/2 really smooth passes at this low setting. Not much blade feel at this lower number, but I am pretty close to smooth. Perfectly acceptable for 2 passes and a little touch up.
    Have a great evening, all!
  8. You guys and your black beauty's this month. You're making it tough to stay off of the bay. That's the only Gillette Adjustable I don't have sitting on my shelf.
  9. Shaves like one too
  10. I’ll send you one to try if you like. I have two from ‘69, one long, one short.
  11. Well, 200 Sharp Stars finally arrived at Cartel HQ today. They have apparently been lounging around at the local Post Office for over a week. I noticed on the tracking site two days ago they were being "held at PO by request of customer". Huh? I'm the customer. I never requested any such foolishness. That same day the Registered Mail slip showed up in my box as well marked "Final Notice". Final notice? How about first and only notice? So, I made my way there on my day off today and had a discussion with the counter drone about their lack of ability to properly deliver Registered Mail. Pretty sure I didn't make an impression judging from the blank expression and drool I encountered. But - the good news is the blades are here and joined their brethren in the end of the world shavepocalypse stash. Since everyone at the meetup got blades, including Sharp Stars, I only had 708 left. I've had the shakes waiting for this supply to arrive as I'm nearly out! And.....Pavel sent me 10 extra as a show of respect to the North American Czar. What a guy! I'm happy to say that I now have 918 Sharp Stars and feel a bit less shaky, but only because of the 458 Voskhod that are sitting next to them. I may have enough to make it to SEptember!

Interesting side note (probably only to me) I now know how to write my name in Russian thanks to the mailing label. First time I've seen both languages on the package.

  13. Have a great time in the quarter, Jim! We haven’t been there since our honeymoon 15 years ago. Loved it there and we were lucky enough to have a room with a wrought iron balcony on Orleans Street a half block from Bourbon.
It has been so long, but at the time I loved Jacques Imos uptown and Commanders Palace in the Garden District in addition to all the great places in the quarter.
    Nice picture, Clint.
Yes, that looks like a massive blade gap for sure.
    Bamboo cutting board?
Is that a travel set up, Andrew? If so, safe travels!
As much as there are a metric tonne of them around, the EJ89 is a quality shaver, regardless of the pot metal thing. What type of handle is a that, Brian?
Love Seville as well! I don’t have the splash, is it an exact match?
    Awesome photo and description, Jim!

  14. Good eye! It’s a Weber Bulldog. I find it is the perfect weight for this razor and it’s stainless. It’s a great travel setup that I carry for a backup.
  15. Phew! That was close...:scared003:, when you were down to 1200, I bet you were on pins and needles...
  16. If it hadn't been for the anxiety meds I don't think I would have made it!
  17. Thank you, Clint. We just got back to our room, 50 posts to catch up on.

My wife is here for another week so she checked a bag. I tossed a couple of blades in there.
