  1. Fantastic write-up John! I hope you’re doing well, given all that you’ve endured recently.
  2. Thank you Jason! Quite the master of multi-quote, aren’t ya? :)

  3. @jtspartan - Fu Jr.
  4. It's Logan Friday! wlae.gif
  5. Excellent shave photo! And of course - TGIF!!

    Thank you, Jason!
  6. Thanks, gentlemen. You're right, Jason. It is a Canadian Tech. I suspect it's what was available in the local drugstore when Dad went to buy his first razor. And it turned out to be a good one...
  7. I was telling him that he's going to have a baby brother in a few days.

  9. Touché, Gentlemen. You have rightfully pointed out my laziness. I probably deserved the ‘Fu Jr’ moniker, but for those of you who were here for the mighty and verbose Shavette Fu, it is quite a stinging indictment indeed.:lam:
  10. You still have a very long way to go, Jason. As a first step, I’d suggest beefing up the insults and obnoxious banter considerably. Wax on, wax off.
  11. That's exciting, Andrew. Once you have 7 boys, you can post a photo of one each day. crazy.gif
  12. In metro ATL for the family. My Great-aunt turns 100 tomorrow. Will be a morning shave tomorrow:

    1959 Gillette 195 (9)
    Sharp Star
    Arko
    @jtspartan Tuxedo
    Alum
    Proraso Eucalyptus AS

Hope all is well. Other than crickets...all is quiet in Covington, GA.

    Have a great weekend!
    :)
  13. 100! That is awesome. Think of the things she has been alive for... She was born when WW1 was still active...amazing.
    Have fun there.
  14. 100! Very impressive, enjoy the birthday party.

  15. Saturday Shave

There is not break to the heat in this record setting summer so again I am using the SMN in part for it's menthol. I used to use heavily mentholated soaps but stopped when I moved to straights. With too much menthol you can't feel the blade which for me is key is dialing up a great shave. I thought it was an epic shave but two weepers and some irritation, I attribute this not being able to feel the nuances of the shave due to the menthol, still a very nice shave.

    Irritation A Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+

    Razor: Koraat 7/8
    Strop: Dry Gulch Black Latigo
Brush: Handle by Jason, Omega pro knot
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: SMN
AS: Enhanced Florida Water AS, Stirling AS
    Scent: MDCI Invasion Barbare

  16. It isn't that I'm anti FatBoy but just the idea of adjusting a setting which I already knew before I put a blade in it. It was #4 or #5 and shave .. Or? Slap a blade in the 47' superspeed or 47' Aristocrat and shave. ;-) Maybe I've been shaving too long.. :) nawww I really do enjoy shaving and still look forward to the process each day. ;-)
  17. Adjustable (Arko) Anything Goes and whatever else we decide AUGUST!!!!

    August 10

    Razor - 1959 (E1) Gillette Fatboy (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (10)
    Soap - Arko
Brush - Stirling Two Banded Synthetic
    Post - Alum

Ok, let's start with a time check. 1:45 a.m. on the 11th. Yep, that's 0145 hours for you military minded types out there. The shave actually happened about a half hour ago, so technically it didn't occur on the 10th BUT it credits there as it was the end of my day at that point. I did get my head shave done earlier in the day, around 5 p.m., but decided to hit the streets early tonight to try and get ahead of things. Can't say it worked to my full advantage but it wasn't bad. Add to it the money I made on GrubHub earlier in the day and it was a decent day on my secondary income job. I also have to say - I'm liking it. Nice diversion from always selling stuff and dealing with customers in that realm. Everybody I deliver food to is happy to see their food, and most of my riders on the Uber/Lyft side of things are friendly and appreciative. Or else drunk enough they're just plain entertaining. Anyway.

The Personna 74 enters double digit days with this shave. I can honestly say I've never used a DE blade for this many shaves. I chose to go to the Fatboy on 9 to continue on with Adjustable August and I also threw in the Arko for the bonus points. (Also used Arko on my head shave). The Fatty is one of my favorite razors and always does a super job, especially wide open. I'm tempted to say, however, that I may have felt just the slightest hint of tugging from the blade tonight. However - before reading too much into that as to the life of the blade - I want to revisit it tomorrow night a bit earlier when I'm not quite so tired and still feeling like I'm in a moving car. I may have just been off on my angle a bit due to fatigue.

I did check the finish with alum and it was quiet. The finish itself is a very near-BBS. Can't quite say it's the full baby but it's very very close. Again, the slight reduction in finish quality from last night and tonight may be attributable to my physical state instead of the blade. Tomorrow will help sort that out.

Hope your weekend has started off great! Trivia for those who haven't seen it yet - the PGA Championship enters round 3 tomorrow and it's being played at Bellrive Country Club here in the STL area. Chesterfield, to be exact. So, if you're watching any of the coverage be sure to wave! I've worked some early morning drives this week with the extra crush of golfing fans around this week so I've been happy to have them around!

  18. Andrew is correct about it swelling to fill the container. But, some of us Philistines just swirl a wet brush on it and go to town with good results. Soak it, don’t soak it, play around to find out what works for you. I struggled with MWF when I first tried it and ended up PIFing it away to somebody. Part of the reason was that I bought into the “bloom the puck with 104 degree water, swirl the brush in a clockwise rotation for two minutes while standing on one leg, add one ounce more water and swirl counter-clockwise for 42 more seconds and enjoy the best lather of your shaving life” instructions for MWF. Not being willing to believe all of the MWF fans could be wrong, I eventually bought another puck and now love it. I’m not “blooming”, I’m using cold water and I’m not whipping it in a bowl till my arm hurts. I’m just treating it like any other soap and getting great results. Experiment and find what works for you. It’s a great soap.
