I didn't know where else to post this, but I wanted to announce that I made it through the first anniversary of my Mom's death yesterday...good phone conversation with my sister, and a pleasant dinner with family friends. Other than that, lots of personal reflection.

That Phoenix product looks to be the aftershave "weather" antithesis to Aqua Velva Musk .

Another first class photo. Love the brush and the color coordination with the soap and aftershave.

Congrats, Paul. I hope things are improving with time, and pray that they continue to do so.

Overall an excellent shave today. I wanted to revisit the E and F plates after a break so that I could better evaluate their performance. The AOS shaving cream was very easy to lather and in no time I had a rich slick later. I had fully intended to use the E plate for the shave today. In fact I assembled the razor thinking that was the case. I guess my eyesight is not what it used to be. With the stroke of the blade, I knew that was not the case. Reading glasses confirmed I had the F plate. Oh well, I will just change the plans and start with the F plate. Paying particular attention to pressure and angle I proceeded with a traditional 3 pass shave. Touch ups along the my jawline and neck easily caught the baby. Note that touch ups with a razor with a 1.23mm blade gap should be done with lather instead of water. Water alone gives a little too much blade feel. :) I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

I can only imagine how much you enjoy being with her, Chris. She must have some very interesting stories to tell. I can identify to some extent. My Dad passed on this date - exactly one month prior to 9/11. He would have been 103 in November. He served in WWII, and many of his brothers, as well as my Bride's dad, served in either WWII or Korea. It was interesting to hear all the stories they chose to share. I also remember hearing about the Great Depression and how he obtained his first driver's license just before our family moved from northern Alabama to Kentucky. My Dad drove to the county courthouse, paid his 50-cents, and got his license to prepare for the trip. That's probably still how it's done today in Alabama. My grandfather had found a job working on steam shovels at an ashpalt mine in central Kentucky during the Depression.

My Dad was a carpenter and eventually a concrete block and brick layer for 50 years. I can't drive by a group of bricklayers today without stopping to watch and sometimes speaking with them. If you ever get a chance to shake an older bricklayer's hand, his big hand will swallow yours up.

Hang on to all the stories and the sweet memories of your Dear Great-aunt, Chris. Please give her a Happy Birthday hug from me. :)

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM Lather Catcher
    Brush: Artisan badger
Soap: Country Club for Men Cahaba Blues
Post: Witch hazel, Country Club for Men Sweet Water aftershave

Hauled in a lather catcher SE from @Linuxguile yesterday and put it to the test today. Terrific shave! Similar feel to other GEM razors. Fairly mild yet efficient. It's so interesting and fun to use a piece of history like this. Really nice all around.

    Enjoy your weekend!
