Finally got around to trying out the Karve razor that I had ordered with the 3.5” handle and the E & F plates. A really good shave with the E, BBS in 2.5 passes. Just a slight bit of more blade feel than the D but, still retaining it’s smoothness. Now, the RR Modder Focker is a decent soap, not the slickest or most protective lather but, it gets the job done. I added just a pea sized dab of GD preshave once I loaded my brush and Holy Moley! Slickness and glide that’s on par with one of Grooming Dept’s Tallow based soaps. And post shave feel is just phenomenal. The preshave enhanced the soap with a thicker and denser lather. Just a superb shaving experience once all was said and done. Have a great evening and shaves Gents.... :happy088:

    TUESDAY'S SHAVE

Shampoo - Paul Mitchell (Tea Tree) Lavender Mint
    Shower Soap - WSP Barbershop
    [IMG]
    Razor - Edwin Jagger "Kelvin"
Blade - Gillette Platinum *Fresh Blade
    Shave Brush - Scaramouche+Fandango 22mm "Ultra-Soft" Synthetic
    Razor/Brush Stand by Royal Shave
Soap - Catie's Bubbles Confiant *Luxury Cream Formula
    Aftershave - Catie's Bubbles Confiant
Post-shave Balm - Retseliney Luxury Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum
Deodorant - Ayelet Naturals "Lemon Ginger"
Fragrance - Catie's Bubbles Confiant Parfum

My last shave with the Edwin Jagger Kelvin was a 9th shave on a Feather blade and it really gave me streaks of razor burn. So, it seems to me the max number of 'safe' solid shaves I can get from the EJ Kelvin is around 7 or 8 shaves. The good thing is this razor shaves great with just about every blade out there, except for Derby, which is the worst blade in this one. This next shave Tuesday morning will be with a Gillette Platinum blade. Russian made, it will no doubt give a great shave.

This one brings me back memories from a year ago.......

"Last summer I set out on a mission, I wanted to make something that pushed my limits. Not just in product formulation or perfumery, but also in how i approached it. I designed the scent completely around natural ingredients and sourced my scent ingredients based on their best growing locations on the earth. The cream soap and aftershave formulations were redesigned to have as minimal impact on the scent as possible while still delivering the high level of performance we expect from all our products. I found beautiful, heavyweight, violet glass jars for the cream soap and simple, elegant frosted glass bottles for the splash and perfume." - Christopher Cullen

Top Notes - Rectified French Verbena, Florida White Grapefruit
Heart Notes - French Lavender, Bulgarian Stara Planina Lavender, Oregon Buena Vista Lavender, French Lavender Mailette, French Lavender Absolute, Egyptian Geranium
Base Notes - Brazilian Rosewood, Haitian Vetiver, Dark Aged Indonesian Patchouli

"It is a blend of rectified French verbena, American white grapefruit, French, Bulgarian, and American lavender essential oils, French lavender mailette, French lavender absolute, Brazilian rosewood, Haitian vetiver, and dark aged Indonesian patchouli. As a parfum, it starts with a very intense citrus burst which the lavender slowly creeps into. As the citrus backs away the vetiver melds with the lavender for several hours until the lavender fades and you get the woody resinous nature of the rosewood, vetiver and patchouli together."......."There are no synthetic aromatics in it, only ingredients distilled, pressed, or extracted from natural sources. It needs body heat to go through its phases so wait until you get it on your skin so the notes can rise and fall." - Christopher Cullen

Adjustable (Arko) Anything Goes and whatever else we decide AUGUST!!!!

    August 13

Razor - 1972 (S2) Gillette Super Adjustable - Long Handled Black Beauty (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (13)
    Soap - VDH Scented Luxury
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

Looks like I'm going to beat the midnight deadline for today! Been home for about a half hour. Enough time to throw a sandwich together and get my shave on. I switched over to my newest toy, the '72 Black Beauty from @John Ruschmeyer . I chose to say simple and basic with the lather gear. VDH soap and the Semogue boar brush. The lather was quite slick and good, as VDH always is. Again - here we have a bargain drug-store type product. And it works. Well. For less.

Trying out a new razor for the first time I usually toss in a Voskhod. Not this time. I have the Personna 74 on a long run and tonight is shave 13 for the blade. The head geometry on the razor seems very similar if not exactly the same as the Slim. So it shouldn't be an issue. It's the weight and balance I'll have to watch. This is a very nice razor in the hand. Great balance, good heft, no pressure needed, especially on setting Me.

First pass convinced me I have a winner in this razor. I'm going to want to spend some time comparing it to the Slim. I feel like the Fatboy is a different instrument with the different head characteristics and handle girth and such. I'll compare it as well but this is clearly more similar to the Slim than the Fat one. I suppose I also need to hunt down a Soviet Ideal at this point. It's the Russian clone of the Super Adjustable so I'll want to compare there as well. The Consul is the Slim counterpart. Ideal is the Black Beauty counterpart. There isn't a Soviet Fatboy that I've found or, of course, I'd be hunting one of those as well.

Two passes and I can say the razor handles extremely well. As for the Personna 74? Still smooth and still so sharp that the one minor cut I suffered went unnoticed until I saw the blood. Low on my neck and looks like a corner ding. Most likely I raised up on the end of a stroke and dug the corner in a bit. No worries. Technique error. After 13 shaves this blade turned in another BBS shave. I'm beginning to just shake my head. Will it ever die? I need to catch up on today and see how @Primotenore did on the 14th shave.

Another long and busy day tomorrow. Inventory and sale change at the day job. Another night of working the mean streets hauling food to follow. I can't get into any trouble, at least. No time. Have a great day!
