  6. Thanks Jim. :happy088:
  7. Thank you Sirs! I'm enjoying having the little ones underfoot. It shifts your world view when going from a single person to part of a collective. Meeting the teachers, coach, and librarian at their school this afternoon was enlightening. Besides getting the school year started, my daughter has taken employment with a retail store and already been offered advancement to a management position. I'll be a little more retired from working outside the house keeping up with the kids. I've got all the wisdom of these years, a little less energy to keep up, and will be setting alarm clocks for early rising. Constant change is here to stay!

  9. Thank you, Clint!

I wasn’t familiar with that one so, naturally, I looked it up. I do think I remember seeing them before. They look rather nice, and remind me a bit (styling) of the One Blade. I look forward to your reviews on it. Did you get the V2?
  10. Yes I got the V2. I made the mistake of texting Mark last night after too many adult beverages. Next thing I knew I had ordered a razor. I might need to put a breathalyzer on the computer.

  12. I used electrics since my teens and a very brief fling with a SensorExcell two-blade cart. In the early 2000s I tried switching to injector or DE without great success. I used them sporadically in between using my electric until I tripped across the 30DC in October 2015 and finally learned how to shave. Starting with making decent lather. (The key for me was to use a lather bowl to control the hydration. I still generally prefer a lather bowl to facelathering for the same reason.)

After that, it was the three aspects of the 30DC Mantra, with each contributing a definite improvement as I applied it, then continuing to give incremental improvements as I practiced it. Ride the Cap, No Pressure and Skin Stretching all worked together. I have gone from blood on my Fatboy at 2 and regular nicks with the Schick J plus razorburn to everyday drama-free two-pass near BBS shaves with my Schick E2 or almost any DE razor I choose to use. And I haven't touched the electric at all in three years.

It took about three months with the 30DC to get good consistent shaves and about six before razorburn was a thing of the past and I no longer put the styptic pencil on the sink for each shave.

A big change for me was when I realized the three-pass shave WTG/XTG/ATG was just a suggestion and not a required goal, and I dropped back to a daily two-pass shave using my own preferred diagonal pass directions. That was when the razorburn vanished out of my life.

  13. Monday August 13

Supply Co. V2 matte black interchangeable injector on plate #2 / Personna (2)
    Simpsons CH2 Chubby synthetic brush
    Kent/MWF in beechwood tub
    TSD Milk Aftershave Lavender

Easy shave today. The Chubby quickly loaded enough MWF that I didn't bother bowl lathering and went straight to my face. Enough soap in the brush for at least 3 passes if not more -- and I only needed enough for two. The usual slick Fat lather with great protection and that good lanolin face conditioning. The injector just wiped the lather and whiskers away. I did two passes in my regular pattern -- diagonally WTG on my face and ATG on my neck, followed by XTG on my face and WTG on my neck. The result left me BBS with no need to use the alum to check for irritation.

The TSD Milk Aftershave is a balm that both feels great and comes in excellent scents at decent strength. I'm surprised it doesn't get more love on this forum.

Hope everybody is on track for a great week!

Andrew @Linuxguile -- best wishes and prayers for tomorrow for you, your wife and your latest addition.

    Razor: Timeless .95 SC
    Blade: Shark Super Stainless
    Brush: SOC mixed
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
    Soap: Stirling Lemony Orange
    Stirling Lemon Chill witch hazel
    AS: Stirling Lemony Orange

    Good evening, friends!

    Menthol Monday!!

Excellent shave tonight! Two pass with light touch up. I'm getting the hang of close shaves on my neck with no redness or irritation. I was doing south to north on my first pass and north to south on my second. Basically two XTG passes. I'm now going ear to adams apple then adams apple to ear. Skin stretching made these passes possible.

I joined the 30DC in March of this year. I too was struggling with razorburn, redness and irritation. I have learned a lot! I'm shaving daily now, which I've never done in the past and never thought I would be able to do. I can use any razor in my collection with confidence that I'm going to get a great shave. I'm still working on my technique and probably will be for quite some time. You gentlemen have made this fun. Thank you!

    Have a great night! [IMG]

  18. Great report and picture, Jim. And thanks for sharing a bit about your shaving journey. When I started here, I was very encouraged by the posts from those who had gone before me assuring me that it had also taken them some time to develop their expertise -- but also that it would happen faster than I was imagining it could...

  19. Thanks, Clint. I just wanted to pass along to James @jtface and anyone else interested the same sort of encouragement that I received here a little less than three years ago...
