You'll get it, Paul. There's a special place in my heart for Trac II razors. I seem to remember my Dad using one when I was a teenager and then later when I was in college. If I recall correctly, I remember using his to remove some of my peach fuzz when I first started shaving. I shaved once a week whether I needed it or not. :) I think I used a Trac II (or maybe an Atra) before I finally switched to a Norelco electric razor in college.

With a brush and soap, I think you'll like the shaves the Trac II provides. You can find some really nice Trac II handles if you want something nicer like this one:

    G3 Gillette Fatboy
    Perma-Sharp Super Stainless (2)
JR #160 Louisville Slugger handle with Omega 10098 boar knot
    Le Père Lucien - unscented
Thayers Lavender witch hazel, Trumper Coral Skin Food, and unrefined shea butter

I enjoyed an easy two-pass shave with the Fatboy set on Neal. On my current run with this razor, I've had good experiences on settings 5, 7, and 9. The correct angle is fairly intuitive at each setting, but in my experience, it takes a bit less effort to get a closer shave on the higher settings. I'll try a few consecutive shaves on 9 to see if my opinion changes, or if irritation starts to develop.

I have really enjoyed shaving the last few weeks with the Fatboy. I like the short, fat, grippy handle and its overall weight and construction. The head design makes it a bit challenging to shave all the hairs right under my nose. I get around this by doing plenty of skin stretching, pushing my nose to one side or the other, and coming at those areas from different directions. If I lose focus, I'll sometimes get a nick at the bottom of my nose from the tabs on either end of the blade.

Sometimes I wonder why I have a handful of shaving brushes. The Omega 98 Pro knot whips up a mountain of lather with just a few swirls on the puck. I press in to cause the brush to splay while I face lather. It provides a soft, comfortable scrub, and the knot is gradually breaking in. It doesn't quite have the "wall of hair" feel of my Chubby 2, but it's fairly close. I really enjoy using it, especially with the long JR # 160 wooden handle.

Will this Trumper Coral Skin Food ever get used up? It's fairly potent, and my Bride doesn't like it when I use too much at one time. It's not in my DNA to throw unused products away, but I wouldn't feel too bad if this partially full bottle accidentally fell into the toilet...and then needed to be PIF'd to someone. :) I'll just plow through the bottle, but I am ready to get back to my handful of nice aftershaves.

We had a busy day, and I need to catch up on today's posts. I hope you all had a great day.

I wore out 3 or 4 of 'em over 30 years. I could use 'em in my sleep. In fact, I did. I got used to quick and mediocre shaves, no cuts, and constant razor burn on my neck. :)

The 6 second one shows the movement as left to right, the written one shows right to left. I wish the left to right guy would explain how to do it, which is why I like the written one better. That's the same guy on the Dorco site (SinatraLennon).

You should be able to slip the cart on the razor handle from either direction. It's just a matter of aligning the tabs on the top of the razor handle with the slots in the cartridge and giving it a little push. It's a tight fit (has to be so the cart won't slide off the handle during use) and also a two-handed operation. It might be easier if you're sitting at a table, using one hand to steady the blade dispenser, and pushing the razor handle on the cart with the other hand. The first time you get it will be your "aha!" moment, and then it will be easy.

By the way, the 3-bladed ones I picked up at $1 tree have plastic covers to just slip over it and lift off, like the Sensor Deuce DisposeABLES. That's good, but I just hope the RAZORS are good, too. I'm making SOME headway with the Twin ll +.........

She will be missed but her memory and music will live on.

I used PFB vanish when I was dealing with ingrowns and irritation, it helped me make the transition and now I no longer need it. Give it a try along with your improving technique and you should be irritation free in a few weeks or sooner.

    Brush: Switchback/TGN Finest
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
Soap: Wholly Kaw Merchant of Tobacco

    Good evening, friends!

Great shave this evening! Two pass with touch up left me near BBS. I did a better job on my neck with this shave.

The Merchant of Tobacco scent has grown on me fast. I really like it. I'm getting the tobacco in the background now but still cocoa dominates the scent to my nose. My wife likes it. She says she only gets a hint of cocoa. Might just be me.

Have a good night and a great Friday!

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Adjustable (Arko) Anything Goes and whatever else we decide AUGUST!!!!

    August 16

Razor - 1972 (S2) Gillette Super Adjustable - Long Handled Black Beauty (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (15)
    Soap - Tabac
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

Onward and forward. Third shave with the Black Beauty and I can say I enjoy shaving with it. I will definitely try a direct comparison to the Slim in the near future to compare/contrast, but I have no complaints at all. Very cool and effective razor. As for the blade - shave FIFTEEN on the same blade and that includes last nights shave on a two day growth. I grabbed the Wolf and Tabac to whip up a classic lather and went to work. Let's talk about the finish first. Definitely a high DFS. No baby, but that's perfectly fine. It appears that BBS is now out of reach of this blade, at least in two passes and touch ups. So the finish I can't complain about. Let's talk about feel of the shave. The blade is starting to feel "ordinary", if that makes sense. A little rough at places but certainly not anything to throw it out about yet. It's just not the same incredibly almost not there feeling smooth it has had in the past. Let's talk about the feel of my face right now. Alum was quiet, so I thought irritation was still not in the picture. However, in the 30 minutes or so since shaving, I am definitely sensing a bit of burn that indicates there is some irritation present. Nothing major but it's starting to creep in.

To sum up the state of the Personna 74 blade on shave 15 - it's still delivering high DFS results. It isn't roughing things up enough to set Alum off. It isn't cutting, nicking or otherwise being a bad boy. It seems to be showing its age but it still performed. It will get shave 16 tomorrow.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Mail call today! Finally I suppose. I am down to three small pieces of my last MWF puck so ordered a replacement last week. They delayed shipping due to it being out of stock. Was supposed to arrive yesterday. Woke up yesterday to a notice that it hadn't shipped and was delayed. Irritated me enough that I went to Amazon to cancel the order. Amazon wouldn't let me cancel it. Lo and behold, an hour later I got notice that it shipped. Not only that it was coming with one day delivery instead of two. Hmmmmm. Woke up this morning to another notice from UPS - shipment was delayed due to "severe weather or natural disaster". It was coming from the East so no fires in the way. Huh? Turns out that notice was sent about 4 am when UPS flights in Louisville were held up due to severe storms. It did, in fact, wind up on my front porch around one o'clock today. A lot of drama for one puck. Even if it is Mitchell's.

Congrats Neal on your storied puck of MWF! Yep, we had the storms here last night. For once, everybody here in my neck of the woods got a midweek bath.
