Rolls? Is that really how you want to approach this "debate"? :happy102 Lingerie chick? Eh...I've seen better. In the mirror.
Before I completely talk you out of a wii how old are your kids? Also the type of TV you have should help determine the type of xbox 360 you decide to get.
Hey don't knock the food network. JoAnna you know you can't make a statement like the above one without pictures.
Well the kids are older so little kid games don't get played. We have a regular Xbox right now w/ Halo, Half Life, Star Wars. Lots of info our there Jen. I was just talking to a guy who's son told him the PS3 is the best thing going for game graphics and games. Also I called the GameStop store. They sell used consoles. What do you think of that idea?
Personally I refuse to buy a PS3, they are too expensive, their backwards compatibility is just disgraceful, the console is basically a way for sony to shove their blu-ray technology into the mainstream market and stomp the life out of HD DVD, and most game companies are jumping ship for the xbox 360 for that reason. I really have nothing but good things to say about my xbox 360, it is a great console, I'm actually playing it right now. It has so many games, the graphics are great, the online system is great, you can download demos, trailers, all sorts of information and games right onto your console. You can even sync your xbox 360 to your computer and stream music through your TV. Netflix also made a new feature where if you use netflix you can send movies directly to your xbox 360 by adding them to your queue and they stream through, no waiting, no spending extra money, nothing like that. You just cannot go wrong.
I wouldn't buy a used Xbox 360, but that's just me. PS3 is worth the BluRay player alone if you act before the end of the year you can get one for $250 (I put a link in the PS3 thread). I'd suggest getting the Elite Xbox. Yeah, it's the most costly, but it also comes with the HDMI and bigger HD. Also backwards compatible. If you buy a cheaper version you'll end up spending about the same to get everything you're gonna need/want anyhow. I know Dell was running some good deals, not sure if they still are. Unit is now going to play NHL on his Xbox Elite.
Eh elite is a waste in my opinion, I use the standard one and I have no regrets, if he doesn't need a giant hard drive or HDMI he is wasting his money. Unless he is trying to see the character's nose hair the component does an fine job. I use it on my 720p 32 inch TV and I get a great picture.
Well that's a bummer about the Netflix thing. I already bought a stand alone unit to stream those movies you're talking about. Oh well. As for HD DVD, you know that's dead so the point is mute. Unit is right. If you want a blue ray player the PS3 would be a cheap way to get it. As for backwards compatibility I hear you, but I have no older games so it wouldn't matter. Not saying I'm going to get one, but those are the facts for me. Actually my wife is becoming opposed to buying anything. She wants to spend the money fixing the bathroom. What fun is that?!? What is the big deal about the hard drive size. I noticed the smallest hard drive they have is 20GB on the arcade version. Isn't that enough to play any game they sell? That's a lot of disc space. I really don't care about the live service. Wouldn't pay for that anyway. So what does the bigger HD get you? I think the HDMI is available on all the 360's; you just have to buy the cable whereas w/ the Elite it comes in the box. No biggie, I've got HDMI cables.
Also I almost forgot. I notice you can use these machines as your DVD player. Are there jacks for hooking sound through a home stereo? Digital audio jacks preferably (rca jacks are ok, but not as good)
HDMI on the Xbox is proprietary, IIRC. The end that hooks to the system is a special plug. Though there might be an adapter somewhere. I download a lot of games so the HD space is neccesary for me. Waste of money? I think not. But your opinion is just an opinion. Much like my own I suppose. I have a very nice TV that I didn't pay a lot of money for to see things in standard definition. 1080p, please. Thank you very much.
