Thank you. I’m pretty smitten with her. The remodel is moving along, finally. We have the exterior mostly done, and they have started plumbing, HVAC, and electrical on the inside. Still hoping to be in by fall.

It didn't change a thing. Prior to the passage of that law, Denver was referred to as "The Mile High City", and it wasn't an accident. The only differences now are that taxpayers aren't burdened with the legal costs of prosecuting a victimless crime, and the former "social problem" now injects tens of millions into the system rather than draining it.

Time will tell where wisdom lies.

As you note, once certain fundamentals are in place, a world of possibility opens up. With soap, it's just so hard to give specific recommendations. Lather is affected by everything from water minerals and relative humidity, to brush type and building techniques. I think we can all agree that some soaps may be more difficult or finicky, but as far as best? No such thing. Too many varieties, too many viable options to declare a winner. All soap lists are inherently subjective, both based upon and limited by the experience of the author. If newbies see certain soaps recurring on a forum, that might be a clue that the soap is indeed a quality product. Beware though dear newbies, trends in boutique soap change faster than high school fashion. So, don't overthink it. Just try some soap. It's probably the most fun of the newbie ADs, and as a bonus, soap won't usually cut one's face.

    ;)

IIRC when I first started looking into wetshaving and researching soaps seriously, the absolute MUST HAVE artisan soap across all the North American - based forums at least was Mama Bear's. If you weren't using Mama Bear's soap you just weren't with it at all. Fast forward a few brief years and while AFAIK Mama Bear's is still in business, you almost never see a reference to it anymore. Meanwhile B+M, Stirling and a couple others are the absolute cat's meow....

It gives me a lot of respect for companies like MWF, the four big British London-based makers, or the bigger commercial ones like Cella, Proraso, Arko or even Williams that have managed to flourish for decades...

We'll be finding out soon in Canada -- medical marijuana is legal now, and personal possession for all purposes goes legal countrywide in October...

Nothing bad will happen. It's worked well everywhere that's tried in the US. Alcohol is an immediately far more hard drug, with far more severe general consequences. Canada has successfully regulated that deadly substance. Why then let flowers that make people kind, lethargic, silly and hungry upset the apple cart?

    August 20

Razor - Qshave (Futur clone) (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (19)
    Soap - Stirling Bay Spring
Brush - Stirling Pro Style Synthetic
    Post - Alum

    I'm time warping again.

    Time warp.jpg

Um. No. Not that kind of time warping, though I did spend some time around the riff-raff tonight. (Some of you will get that reference...the old cool guys). Time warping as in delivering GrubHub until 11:30 then making a 30 minute drive back home from downtown STL to get my shave for the 20th done very early on the 21st, then reporting it here on the 21st but labeling it the 20th. Not confusing at all if you've studied temporal mechanics at Starfleet Academy.

I switched back to the Qshave tonight, still open to setting Holy Hell! The Personna 74 is on day 19 and there is a clear difference in how it performed a few razors back when it first went through the Qshave. The blade is not as smooth with the razor and the finish is DFS. In fact, I'd say it has slipped to a "normal" DFS which, for this blade, is weak. No blood, but with it dulling down that may not be a surprise. It's not time to give up on it yet, and it will get shave 20. Not as sure, though, that there is a 21 in it. We'll see about that after tomorrow night. Or is it tonight. Or tonight tomorrow maybe? Tomorrow tonight because it's today? Sheesh.

Oh - the soap was Stirling Bay Rum. I really like the traditional Bay Rum, though I've used Jeeves and El Caballero enough to notice the difference easily. I'm going to have to use those three back to back in a trial in the near future. Just to see which version of Bay Rum I really prefer. That is all.

And that's why we wear helmets. Actually physics is why we wear helmets, because stopping is often more challenging on a human than gaining speed through mechanical means.

Well it's like I always tell my wife, who is absolutely terrified of heights. The high parts never killed anyone, nor did the climb. Actually, the fall never killed anyone either. It's the sudden stop at the end that's the problem. Moral of the story? If you fall from a great height.......refuse to stop.

I personally would highly recommend this for short falls from small heights too... :(

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Personna Twin
    Razor: Schick L1 injector
Brush: Ever Ready 100T restored badger
Soap: Country Club for Men Cahaba Blues
Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Tobacco Bay Leaf aftershave

Nice shave with this Tobacco Tuesday combination. Thanks to @Screwtape for sending out these twin blades a while back, probably over a year ago. They make this L1 razor a smooth and efficient tool. Did one WTG pass as normal and then did some ATG on my cheeks, which is a new process for me. Great results in the end.

    Have a great day!
