What's your choice of an adjustable for August?

PAL Adjustable on "L" / Schick Super Chromium (2)
Vlasta's prototype Rubberset 400 copy T-400 with 24mm silvertip badger knot
Jason's wooden Dry Dock shave bowl
    TOBS Mr. Taylor's shaving cream
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal and Lucky Tiger

I was going to return to Mitchell's Wool Fat for the rest of the month, but in honour of James @jtface's upcoming visit to one of London's great shaving meccas, I went with a TOBS cream instead. Today's choice was Mr. Taylor's, which is a sort of mix of citrus scents, sandalwood, and a few other scents I can't identify. TOBS cream has to be one of the easiest lathering soaps or creams in my inventory. I squirted a dab of cream on my damp brush, dumped a palmful of water into my shave bowl, and I had a brush loaded with several passes worth of thick, creamy lather with about six swirls in the bowl.

I dropped my PAL adjustable back down a notch to its lowest setting again. I always found that setting adequate for a smooth shave in the past, and the slightly increased setting yesterday left me with irritation for no real net gain in results. Two passes back on the lowest setting today left me near BBS. The alum did indicate some mild irritation in places, but that might well have been left over from yesterday. In any event, the sting was less today.

I don't have any postshave product that exactly matches the Mr. Taylor's scent, but the Thayers rose-scented WH topped with the orange-scented Lucky Tiger provided a nice finish.

I have used Vlasta's aluminum Rubberset copy brush for about a week now with a variety of soaps and creams. I have found the weight to be comfortable -- the solid handle is not excessively heavy. The size and shape, of course, handle superbly just like the originals did. The finish is excellent with a ferrule that fits snugly but screws on and off easily. The silvertip knot he included with the brush seems good quality -- it hasn't shed a single hair, it's soft on the face and spreads to provide good coverage, but still has decent backbone. It has loaded and lathered well with everything from TOBS cream to MWF and a quite hard-milled soap. I'm giving this one a Thumbs Up.

Thank you John. I agree the razor is challenged at the very least in the look department. I think it looks like a Cobra Classic and OneBlade cross. I could get past the looks at the initial offering price. Now that Classic Shaving has the price I would pass.

Thanks, Clint! It's going fairly well. Yesterday a student couldn't find his keys and his mother had to bring him a second set, so I was waiting for that to get cleared up and didn't get home until about 7:00pm. So it was good for days like that (12+ hours) that they are gone. Makes me feel less guilty about how busy this time of year is. I look forward to seeing them on Friday!

Wonderful photo and report John. You are correct on TOBS cream being easy to lather. I recommend it to new shavers to eliminate lathering as an issue in the beginning.

I’ll be playing bachelor this weekend. My wife is going to Tempe to visit Asha. I don’t like the house being so quiet.
