Thanks very much. I think we all have our own style. I like outdoor shots with no filters, usually. Some like indoor shots with filters. Like I said we all have our own way of doing things. Make for a nice contrast.

Yep. I would really like to see an objective third party observer checking their shave results and reporting on just how smooth that 100th shave actually was when compared to the first one, how many extra passes were required to achieve the same actual result, and whether the consumption of balm products had increased...

People have shaved with things like honed lumberjack axes, and sharpened kitchen knives or even spoon edges -- once, for a YouTube video. That doesn't mean the result was a truly good shave...

Adjustable August Focus

The "adjustment" today was to my new bottle of Florida Water, which I promptly iced with about 8 1/2 g of menthol.

Two-Band SiLVERTiP badger hair from Simpson is luxury personified. Lovely.
1947 Gillette Super-Speed loaded with a twice-used Feather blade really delivered.
No tugging. Nice, long strokes. Irritation free.
I really like this shave soap. Identical twin to Mike's Barbershop. (Performs as well too!)
I think the Florida Water is refreshing. Unfortunately, the scent isn't particularly long-lasting.
Nonetheless, combined with the menthol, which, BTW, I pulverized in my mortar & pestle before adding,
was a wonderful finish to a wonderful shave.​

Thanks John. I have heard of M-Bomb. I don't know why it wouldn't work? There was barely enough space in the full bottle to scrape in the menthol powder. The process looked nefarious.

Thursday evening August 23 - going to extremes both ways

PAL Adjustable injector on setting "H" / vintage Schick Super Chromium ( 3?)

I went for my ultimate in lathering luxury tonight, pulling out the enormous and pillowy Kent badger brush. It's big enough that when splayed out, it can cover nearly half my face without moving. A generous squirt of the TOBS cream in the big lather bowl with a palmful of water added provided the ingredients for the massive brush to whip up a full load of rich, creamy lather. After my normal two passes, I squeezed enough creamy suds out of the brush to have covered my face two or three more times. The brush isn't always the easiest to lather my face with simply because it's so big it can be hard to control, but what it lacks in delicacy it more than makes up for in sheer pillowy cloudlike comfort.

On the other extreme, I took my PAL Adjustable and bumped it up from its lowest setting to the absolute top of the range. Set wide open, it might as well not have a bar guard in front of the blade at all. Definitely a lot more blade feel than on the lowest setting.

The day before yesterday, I shaved with this razor set one notch up from the bottom and experienced a fair amount of irritation. So I shaved with it wide open today and the result was ... a good shave. No cuts, nicks or weepers and the alum reported virtually no irritation. I think the reason was that I knew the razor had bitten me on lower settings and I therefore exercised extreme care today with the skin stretching and especially the pressure. I am BBS tonight after two passes and I didn't really need the postshave product.

Despite tonight's success, tomorrow the razor goes back to setting "L". I can get a perfectly good shave with the razor set at its mildest setting, and I find it much more relaxing and enjoyable to use there.
