Another excellent shave this morning. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect shave. I am happy to say the AOS Ocean Kelp should be finished in another 2 shaves or so. It will not make my "Buy Again" list. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.
  2. Very nice, Joseph! You have me thinking bay rum for today's shave.

  4. I see the wisdom of this and completely agree at this point moving up to 7 on the final pass is entirely unnecessary and --- well ---- unwise.

I guess my thinking with using setting 3 is entirely focused on my lower neck. (Draw a line from each hinge of my jaw through the adams apple. Lower neck is below that line.)

My lower neck is the area that's most sensitive and has been prone to the worst of the irritation.

My idea was to think of it as 2 completely different shaves. Lower neck area on 3 for maximum of 2 passes. Then to do the rest of my face on something slightly more aggressive.

Dunnoo have a shave coming up in about 3 hours after I get back from the gym. Maybe I'll just see what leaving it on 3 the whole way does....

I'm definitely using that highly mentholated licorice smelling soap today though (Stirling Glacial Obsidian) love that stuff. The menthol rush comes on like being swept out to sea in a rip current.

  10. That's a really sweet setup, Joseph. Your daily shaves exude pure class. :eatdrink047:
  11. That's how I attained proficiency with a Fat Boy on nine using a Feather blade. I settled at number five for a long time and I was getting great reductions. Didn't even consider adjusting it until Neal @NCoxSTL & Chris @Bama Samauri goaded me into upping my game. Now I do an every other day (mostly, time permitting) three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG, + clean up passes) for glorious DFS or better. The higher settings may not be for everyone.

Yup, incremental improvement. Master the basics, then try other stuff!

Neal, you are The Blade Czar. If you were appointed The Razor Czar I could see it might be time for an intervention, coup, or election.

  12. Thank you, Bruce!
  13. Why not leave it on 3 for the whole shave? Keeping you variables to a minimum really helps the learning curve on shaving. That is really the goal behind the 30 Day Rule, focus on technique so that you know differences between shaves are due to technique changes and not equipment changes.
  14. I was a little late with my previous comment, but I wouldn't treat it like a different shave. Just worry about the angle, not the blade gap, and you will soon get good shaves with any razor or setting.
  15. I got behind again yesterday, so here is the lazy catch all multi-quote. Terrific looking shaves, gentlemen!
  16. I know you've been here a while, but you can't go changing it to the 39 day rule/crew just like that!

    Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
    Lather: PAA Tombstone
    Aftershave: PAA Tombstone

New soap and razor today (I think I might have a problem). The soap is an interesting scent. I definitely get the gunpowder and leather. I also get just a touch of tobacco and a little floral behind it all. The razor is a smooth shaver, but I will be interested to see if the twin Personna blades fit it. The matching AS is similar to the soap, but I get a little more tobacco and floral scents. I hope everyone has a great day!
  18. Got me! My fat thumbs don't always work too well on these little phone keyboards.
