    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

    Saturday morning August 25

Gillette Fatboy refurbished by Delta Echo in Ink black / red on #5 / Nacet ( 2)
    Vlasta's prototype T - 400 aluminum with silvertip knot
Jeeves Private Study (Bay Rum) soap
    Jeeves Bay Rum splash

I joined the crowd today and pulled out a bay rum soap and splash. Or a variant anyway -- the Jeeves version has orange and other scents mixed into the "traditional" bay rum base. It loaded quickly and the T-400 did a nice job face lathering. Two quick passes got me to a high-grade DFS with no need to use the alum to check for errors. The Jeeves splash gave the usual good finish with a light dose of menthol wearing off to a longlasting smooth skin feeling.

I should use the Jeeves products more than I do. But then I have so many good soaps and splashes that I end up thinking that about almost every product I pull out...

Okay. I did it. The passes on 3. The irritation problem was solved. The shave itself? Kind of meh. Plenty of areas that could use some clean up if I was so inclined.

I guess this is another lesson in blade angle and technique.

Stick with it. I have just embarked on a 100 day challenge using a Gillette Fat Handle Tech and Astra SP to try and nail down my technique. I am getting noticeably smoother/closer shaves by stretching my skin with my free hand whilst maintaining that light pressure and blade angle!

Keep at it. You are right: angle and technique. Skin stretching as @jtface mentions will help quite a bit as well. The Tech razors are about as mild as it gets, and they will absolutely deliver a terrific shave when used well. The BB on 3 will do the same.

Thank you Jim, we are indeed very busy right now with a newborn and toddler and many visitors. But everything is going very well with mom's recovery and baby's growth. I have to return to work next week so you all will be seeing more of me then. But to hold you all over I'll leave you with this.

    DITTO!

My 'closest' irritation free shaves came from a 'gizmo' razor.... Focus R48 1/2 DE. Hassle to make sure the blade is loaded right, but great idiot proof results.

Mostly, using a straight gives the lowest irritation. Still working on my skills to improve closeness.

I'm no longer backing up with a final DE pass, but when I was I noticed how much better I could use a safety razor. I was getting better feel for the sensations of sharpness, angle, pressure, etc.

I had read others make similar comments. They were correct in my case.

    Enjoy the journey!

I walked away satisfied with meh plenty of times. I don't regret it and neither will you.

    You will get there.
