Below we have Ram Horn folder. I think of knives in two categories - working knives and gentlemen's knives. Gentlemen's knives need to be small enough to pocket carry in a pair of slacks and will mainly do tasks such as opening boxes, cutting as needed, cutting cardboard, etc... They can be more showy and can have damascus blades.

A working knife is going to be used in shops, on farms, etc... It will need to be more heavy duty if it's a folder. Nice damascus steel would work, though wouldn't be advised as it may get scratched.

This knife straddles the line between these two categories. This knife is made from VG-10 stainless and the blade has an outer coating of a different stainless which increases strength by 30%. You can see the line right above the edge where the stainless ends and the VG-10 is exposed.

VG-10 is one of the new higher quality stainless steels. It get wickedly sharp and holds an edge longer than 440C, which is the old faithful of knife steels.

    RyX DoH!

I dropped a family portrait HERE. Good times!

Thanks Jason. I've still got one more notch to up this one wide open. It's not click stops like a Gillette Adjustable so I can ease up a little at a time.

My photo adjustments are done with Snapseed app. A freebie from the Play Store. Subtle brightness, contrast, saturation. ambience, highlights, shadows, & warmth all aimed at reality but augumented. Sometimes I follow it with details; structure to sharpen up the image. There's also a great perspective tool to change angles, and the cropping it easy.

Thank you guys! When I shave less often, it becomes a memorable event.

Thanks Jim! Being a parent for this go round is more kid interactive. On the first batch I was sole provider and their mom did the household stuff. Now I'm more of a househusband in my daily duties. Times change, roles shifted. I need to manage my time better, but I'm having fun.

Pete, thanks for this post and your earlier one answering my question about your knives. Also thanks for being a good sport about mailing soap samples out to the whole ravening horde here, including those who live outside the US, like me.

A couple questions about the knife: I assume this one is a linerlock? And approximately what length is the blade?

And earlier in this thread we saw photos of the knife you did for Randy @BaylorGator. I think that one had ramshorn grips too, but a damascus blade? And a lockback? And maybe a slightly slimmer design with a nail nick instead of an opening stud?

So is it fair to say you do a number of patterns of folding knives depending on exactly what the customer wants?

Lastly, to bring up an indelicate topic on a public forum, what ballpark do your knife prices run in? I need to know how much I will have to save up...

Adjustable (Arko) Anything Goes and whatever else we decide AUGUST!!!!

    August 28

    Razor - Soviet Consul (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Stirling Ozark Mountain
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Final shave for the Consul this month. Sharp Star is still as horrible as ever. Yuck. Don't know why I have a whole room full of them. But I do think I need to order more. The Stirling Ozark Mountain is still a soap that just amazes me with the scent. About the time I think I've found a new favorite scent I use the OM again and I'm reminded how much I really love it. JR46 for an effortless, classy and just plain awesome lather.

Two passes, some touch up, baby is in the house and I'm about to finally eat some dinner. Light dinner tonight, though. I'm still losing weight and I have a Dr. appointment on Thursday. The real doctor, not the pain guy. So this one counts big.

Three more shaves for the month and I have to decide which adjustable to finish with. I'm wavering between unleashing the Qshave one more run or finishing with class on the Toggle. I'll figure it out by tomorrow. Have a great night!

Drat. I thought it might refer to the fact they are heavy enough to use as a weapon if Norman Bates ever visits you in your bathroom... ;)
