August 2018 30 Day Rule/focus Pix & Discussion

August recap:

I didn't have much of a focus this month. Continued with soap reduction and used the Schick M1 adjustable a good bit more than normal in keeping with the theme. Great shaves all around. It was a good month.

Looking forward to SEptember where I'll use SE razors and injectors (shocker, right?) as well as Stirling products for a Stirling SEptember. Going to be great.

Happy Friday. I've had a fairly busy but productive week. I am looking forward to a long holiday weekend. Everything worked well together this morning to deliver a near perfect 3 pass shave. Most importantly there we no operator errors. A splash of Fine Lavender and I ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Friday

August 2018 Recap​

I have continued my year long focus reducing my soap/cream inventory. I had some success this month completing Nuàvia Blu. During the month I continued my attempt to tame the Karve E & F plates. Even though I was able to get consistently good shaves from both, I will revisit the plates to improve my skills. On a whim, I ordered the OREN razor which is certainly not my best looking razor but really delivers a wonderful shave.

As usual the best part of the month was the shenanigans and camaraderie on the 30DC thread. I have enjoyed seeing the progress of our newer members. Thanks again for the opportunity to participate. I look forward to seeing you guys next month.

Thank you, Andrew! Yep - it's not the Karve that's the problem, it's me. I've seen all of those soap container graphics, except the Farinik before. They are worse than the Champs De Lavande graphic, but I don't think by much.

Thank you, Jason! If you like lavender scents, and can find the Champs, it's quite a pleasure. Or, you can get the CL aftershave - still available in this scent (which I may have to purchase).

In fairness, I said it was some of the worst graphics, not the absolute worst. I actually thought of the "scientist guy" label when I was doing my write-up. Thankfully, you can't always judge a book by its cover. It sounds like the soap in those awfully labelled containers is very good, from what I remember.

Someday I'll have to snag a M&F. They are beautiful brushes. Good to hear that they have decent flow-through, and do have at least some backbone. While I do like a dense knot, they tend to be lather hogs sometimes. Squeeze the knot after the shave and there's enough soap left for another three passes.
My nemesis is on my right side of the Adam's Apple. The hair grows in all sorts of funk directions there. If I'm careful, a little J-hooking, and/or a swipe sideways going towards the Adam's Apple usually gets the bulk of it. If I'm careful.....

OK gents... I have been charged with finding a shaving set for my step-father-in-law. I'll need razor, brush, bowl, cream and aftershave.

I was thinking:

Razor - Weishi 9306
Brush - Omega 10048
Bowl - Generic stainless steel
Cream - Proraso (which colour for beginner?)
Aftershave - Proraso (will match the cream)

I will give him 10 Astra SP blades from my own supply to get him started. What do you guys think about this for a good starter setup? I am keeping the cost low because I'm not paying for it!

 

I put a no-name blade in my Blackland Blackbird on June 1. I also started growing a beard, so only shaved my neck and my cheeks every one to three days. I took the blade out on Monday. It was still cutting, but metal fatigue caused the blade to break in half and it got misaligned. How's that for a blade focus?
