I usually overuse my Sterling balm most times. Good picture and lineup:

After reading up on Tea tree I picked up a small bottle of Essential Oil. Straight up it is medicinal and pine scented. It has antibiotic and antifungal properties. During WWII Australian military first aid kids were stocked with it. I use it for a pesky reoccurring toenail fungus. Once per week applied with a Q-tip and my nails stay clear.

After looking to try a new blade after only wet shaving 3 times it was suggested I join the club. I recently purchased a sample pack, 34c, some TOOBS creme, Nivea balm, pre-shave oil, a bowl and badger brush. I started with the Astras after seeing all the positive reviews. Luckily, after enjoying the first shave(no cuts, nicks and very little irritation) I immediately ordered 100 Astras figuring it can't hurt to have them. Good thing since I will be using them for 30 days now. I am 7 days in and SLOWLY getting better. I am still having issues with stretching my skin properly and knowing when to go WTG, XTG and ATG. I even at one point almost went back to the cartridges after a crappy shave that took way too long(it was a bad day). However, I have been convinced that all of my issues are technique related and in the end I will get a superior shave with wet shaving. Thank you for all the information up till now.

My focus will be Soap Extermination! So out will come the stubby Vie-Long horse hair brush and see how much I can use up! Conk Almond is in the mug now.

Started the month on focus at a hotel with the E3 and a Stirling balm. Excellent shave. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to get caught up with the thread later.
    Have a great night all!

Welcome to town. I started very similarly. I got a 34c early on, some TOOBS cream, Nivea balm and Astras (still one of my favorite blades). The only thing in that setup that I do not currently own is the 34c, and that is only because I gave it to a friend who is new to wet shaving.

The equipment you have is fully capable of giving you a great shave. A few things that helped me out here:

    1. Learn the angle of your razor. Learn to ride the cap and slowly adjust the angle down until you reach maximum proficiency. There are many threads here that will demonstrate riding the cap.

    2. Map your beard. Many of us have facial hair growing in different directions on different parts of our face/neck. Learning which way it grows is helpful info.

    3. Start with with the grain passes until you get razor angles worked out. Then add in your across the grain and finally against the grain. I learned I don't really need an ATG pass to get decent looking shave, and started saving it for special occasions when I want to feel really smooth.

    3. Start your lather with a lightly damp brush. Add water in small increments until your lather has more of a yogurty texture. Fluffy=bad.

    4. You will receive lots of input from many wise men. Listen, engage, ask questions even if they feel stupid. There is no judging here. Malarky? Yes. Hijinks? Sure. Cookies? Debateable. Cartels and factions? Occasionally. But judging? Only in May.
