Never used an Alum block or witch hazel before. Though both seems quite useful. I do use an aftershave moisturizer/balm which works quite well to calm the skin. Appreciate the tip! Does the alum block sting like aftershave and do you use it after you dry off or while your face is still wet?

Haha...appreciate the trekkie reference. So NcoxSTL is the TSD Stranger your parents warn you to stay away from? :p

    Hi @Spock
Alum will or will not burn, depending upon your shave. The more burn, the more you irritated the skin. I have always found the aftershave sting to be somewhat different.

Welcome! I'm glad you're here with us. You'll make a lot of progress in the next 30 days, and you'll hopefully have some fun in the process. I see you have already been warned about @NCoxSTL. ;)

I rub the alum block on my wet face after I complete the cool water rinse. I leave it on for 30 seconds to a minute and then rinse it off with fresh water. It will close up small weepers, tighten up your skin, and sting in areas where you may have shaved too closely. (I don't use it all the time.) Then I apply witch hazel, followed by unrefined shea butter and after shave.

You can also rub the fingertips of your off-hand across the alum block while you are shaving. This will provide better grip and allow you to more effectively stretch your skin. Skin stretching is really important if you're seeking a close, comfortable shave.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Ah, nothing like a relaxing day off to spend some time with my wife - walking about 4 miles until I thought we'd never quit. But it was quality time and that's important. Then, home to check in and see that another newbie has been warned about me. Good times. Probably prudent, though I know it's still mostly instigated by the Cookie Rebellion. That's ok. As long as they think the cookies are fake there's more for the rest of us. And, to top off the day, a package was in my mailbox. Wait a minute. A package in my mailbox? I didn't order anything. The last order I made was for the Treet Super SE blades. They arrived a few days ago. I don't have anything on order. From Arizona? Nope, don't remember anything about an order. It's an eBay order too from the shipping label. I'm confused. Well, perhaps I forgot about something. So - opened the package and this is what I found.

And, though I already had a pretty good idea what I'd find, I unwrapped the mystery item.

    Kamisori.JPG
A sweet little kamisori. Stamped as Yasuki Steel and a New Hamamasa blade. Yes, I'm intrigued. I've always liked the kamisori razors. My interest in them is partly what started me on pain sticks. Actually have a kamisori in my collection I've just never sent to be honed. This one is clearly shave ready. It's sharp. Very sharp. And the note - well - any of you veterans around here NOT know who this was instigated by? Smells like @Drygulch to me. Funny how a few days ago Adam had messaged me about a guy selling shave ready kamis cheap on a Facebook group. I didn't have time to check it out and - after a second conversation - he informed me the guy was indeed out of them. Apparently only after Adam got this one shipped to me.

Well, let's get one thing straight. I have never yet turned down a dare from Adam. So DARE ACCEPTED! It will be a day or two before I roll it into rotation but it will be featured SOON! I'm not scared! (Kind of excited actually).

Oh, and for those who are warning newbies about me? This might be the one time a warning could be serious - Don't do the stuff Neal does without a safety net or the experience to have a clue that it might or might not work. Other than that - I'm a sweetheart! :happy005:

We had a great time. It was a bit of a drive, especially there. I got up at 3:30 that morning and we made it to Destin at 1:00 the next morning. A very long day. But, the trip was worth it. We left before the storm hit, so that was an added bonus.

Late post for an early morning shave. My wife got up before I left this morning, so I spent some time with her and didn't get a chance to post until now. I hope everyone has a great day!
