Gillette Sun Up is similar to, but different from Old Spice. I have a vintage bottle of Sun Up, and B&M nailed it. The Spice is different.

Thanks, Charlie! I weighed myself at the chiropractor’s office this week, and I’m down to 225 now, 35 from where I started.

I didn’t see these messages before I replied. PAA makes a scent called Sun Down that is a dupe of Sun Up. The sent has some similar notes, including the powder notes. It isn’t near the same as Old Spice. I don’t like the Vintage Old Spice scents I have tried don’t appeal to me. I do like Sun Up.

SEptember- how about a 1950s English Razor with a small hollow ground carbon steel blade that was supposed to be thrown out and replaced when the strop didn’t maintain it well any more? (I didn’t know that until after I honed it.) Wilkinson Sword Empire seven day set. The Monday blade was the only one that appears to have been used, and it had a few small chips on the edge. Seven stones and three strops later, it was passing all the tests I can almost never get my straight razors to pass. Whaddya think @wchnu? Used the Razorock XXX that was a gift from @Keithmax a few years ago, and my super mentholated Island Lime aftershave. The head on the razor is big, and the angle isn’t quite as flat as a GEM razor. I think I figured out the angle, but need a few more shaves to make sure. Have no idea how to adjust the blade exposure, but will figure it out. Three passes and DFS. Not quite as nimble as my Rolls, but not far from it. Great shave.

Looking forward to the shave report on a kind of razor you have been talking about using for literally years.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

You're right. Literally for years. I think I ran onto the kamisori style in my first year here and went so far as to find and order one. It wasn't shave ready and I moved on to some other things including the pain sticks and other delights. It's time to put up or shut up. As for the giving blood......I gave some today during my head shave - and that was with a Merkur 23c. Does that count?

Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb - OCMM
    Blade - Treet Super Single Edge.jpg (1)
    Soap - Stirling Iced Pineapple
Brush - Stirling Pro Handle Synthetic
    Finish - Alum

No time warp tonight. Day off so I'm in the right time zone, right place, right day - it's kind of amazing. Two shaves today - head shave with the Merkur 23c/Astra SP and VDH Deluxe came first a bit earlier. It was not uneventful. I had a small bump at the top of my head - probably a zit from my oily scalp that can be a problem. Thought I was past it and I wasn't. Drove the razor right into it. Blood everywhere but it soon stopped. No lasting damage. Shave tonight - switching to the OCMM and Treet Super blade. Stirling Iced Pineapple with the big synthetic and baby - that's lather.

Three full passes just because I had all the time in the world and I was enjoying every minute of it. I have chosen to take Thursday off from all my various jobs since it's my weekly official day off at the Firm. No driving tonight, nowhere to be, so time to reconnect with my shaving zen and see how good it could be. Brother, it was outstanding. I locked right onto the angle for the beast that the OCMM is, let the weight of the razor do all the work and just guided it through three passes of smoothness and delicious scents from the soap. The finish? I'm so smooth it's like I may never need to shave again. Outstanding result. Alum was quiet. I'm relaxed, enjoying the holdover on the scent and my wife loves this scent as well! Wins all the way around.

Tomorrow is another day off from the bed thingy but I'll be doing an 8 hour delivery shift for GrubHub, then a few hours break, then out for my usual late night Friday runs. I should get another good shave in tomorrow so I'm anticipating a great lead in to the weekend!

An alum block does serve as an instructive shave feedback tool. It's will tell you quick fast in a hurry if you used too much pressure. As Charlie @wristwatchb detailed - finish shaving, rinse off the soap, and while your face is still wet rub the flat side of the bar soap sized crystal where ever you've shaved. You @Spock being a young guy may not appreciate the skin tightening as much as us older guys. I've found it gives an instant facelift feeling. If you've incurred razor burn for what ever reason your face will instantly light up. Any small nicks might stop leaking during the treatment because of the astringent qualities, and it served as an antiseptic to keep away infections at the site of broken abused skin. I, too rinse off the alum shortly after application. Most times I apply, wash out my shave bowl , brush, and razor, then rinse my face. I've read about others having chosen to leave the thin invisible coating on. Although not yet proven, there is a connection to aluminum based products & Alzheimer's so I rinse. After I've rinsed I dry with a towel and apply an alcohol based aftershave. It's not the same burn. The alum has a little more bite, or maybe it's a heat. If you choose to try one be aware that they can slip out of your grip, land on a hard surface, and shatter in unusable little chunks. Wrapping the bar with a wide rubber band ("elastic" for our British friends) is a cheap easy grip enhancement. There are crystal deodorants made from the same Aluminum Sulfate in a convenient push up type container.
