    SEptember is a Stirling month!

    September 12

    Razor - 1914 Ever Ready
    Blade - [IMG] (5)
    Soap - Stirling Barbershop
Brush - Stirling Pro Type Synthetic
    Finish - Alum

Second shave on the 1914 and the 5th for the blade. Very smooth, very effective, very nice. I'm finding the 1914 reminds me a bit of using the blade on a bolt. Similar length, similar angle, actually, but of course the blade doesn't shimmy and shake in the 1914 like it does on a bolt. Yeah, ok, so not quite as challenging but hey, it's a fun reminder. Seriously, the SE razors are all doing a fantastic job this month. Loving the results. Finished today with a nice DFS which was plenty good. Plans for tomorrow that won't mind a bit of extra growth if it's there. More on that in a bit.

Got this one in before the clock struck midnight! It's another banner night! My one day off is up next so I'll try not to gloat while you're all working tomorrow. Have a great Thursday.

    THURSDAY IS DARE NIGHT!!!

Ok, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, lads and lassies, and all those in between. You know who you are.

Last week @Drygulch threw down another of his famous dares. He surprised me with a shave-ready kamisori with a note that said, simply, "I dare you". I have been an admirer of kamisori style razors for almost as long as I've been here but have never had one shave ready that I could try. I've used the pain sticks plenty, which approximate the kami style, but are definitely not the same thing. So, since I now have the item in hand, I can no longer simply pay lip service. I need to try the thing. Especially since the gauntlet has been thrown. I don't believe I've ever turned down a dare from Adam, not even when it involved a shady and highly suspect piece of Soviet straight razor crap. A very cool piece of Japanese Steel will not deter this wannabe Russian guy.

I'll start the festivities tomorrow with my usual weekly head shave and, in honor of kamisori dare night, I'll use my Kai Captain pain stick for the head shave. Then, for the main event, the kamisori will come out to play. I'll use Stirling Sheep with it in order to keep it Stirling in SEptember and also because the mutton tallow is uber-slick and cushy. Even if I slice and dice I'll still have the lather to comfort me.

Place your bets on the results. How many cuts, slices, weepers, curse words, or whatever you can think of. It all happens THURSDAY (THURSDAY, THURSDAY ). Yeah, I know, not the same ring to it as Sunday...Sunday....well, you get the picture.

I noticed while watching today (it's what I do when things are slow in the store - yeah I know - tough job) that the street out front of Andy's house appears to be dirt. First time I'd noticed that. Also in keeping with the small town feel, of course. I'm now several episodes into season 7. Howard Sprague is a regular now along with his overbearing mother. I also choked back a laugh today at the episode where Helen tells her niece who had given Opie a black eye after beating him at a few athletic things that women needed to act weak and inferior to men so that the men and their fragile egos would feel good about themselves. Talk about sexism and a few other things that we took for granted back then!

We'll just have to remember the corollary to "what's the worst that could happen?". That would be "how bad could it really be?".

    Shave Report #22

Gillette (Flat Bottom) Fat Handle Tech (Made in England)
    Astra SP (1st use)
    Bluebeard Doubloon Boar Brush
    TOBS Peppermint
    Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm

Back with the TOBS Peppermint for my 'rule' (yeah yeah, I know I strayed on soap a little), and boy do my shaves feel better. I think it's down to being able to hydrate the lather properly in my bowl and have a feel for how slick (or not) the cream is. It doesn't have loads of residual slickness, so doesn't lend itself to re-shaving without re-lathering, but that doesn't stop it being an awesome cream!

Ended up with a nice 2 pass shave with jawline and chin touch up (I slightly over shaved here) and just the leftover irritation from bad shaves in the past!

    Enjoy your shaves gents!

    A Stirling SEptember

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM G-Bar
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Piacenza
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Piacenza aftershave

Piacenza soap and splash today with the G-Bar. Pretty nice shave. The blade may be at its end as it wasn't as efficient as an SE shave can be, but nice results overall. The Stirling month is going along famously. Great software day in and out - can't beat that.

Hope you have a great day!
