Another excellent report and photo. Your enabling sir, is first rate. You have me ready to order a glacial soap.
Sunday morning September 16 Supply Co V.2 Single Edge injector on plate #2 / Personna (? ) Semogue Owners Club cherrywood Tuxedo brush Hendrix Classics Barbershop soap sample Alum and Osage Rub and Clubman VIBR Although the ghastly horror of yesterday's drop of blood was still fresh in my mind, I summoned up my courage and tottered back into the bathroom for another shave... Today everything went smoothly. The brush whipped up the good lather I now expect from the Hendrix Classics soap, and the same razor as yesterday performed two passes with no fresh carnage. Alum was silent. I used Osage Rub for the menthol, then topped it with VIBR for the scent. Checking afterwards, the underside of my chin isn’t as smooth as normal; I think this blade may be starting to lose its edge. Time to bank it and move on.
I just could not leave well enough alone and spend the day on the couch. I picked up a Ever Ready C40 brush last year. At the time I was having some issues with my back and put the brush aside. Feeling adventurous today, I removed the old knot and expanded the opening today. I think I might go with an APS Synthetic Flat Top knot. I know pictures or it didn’t happen. Razor: GEM MMOC Blade: GEM Stainless Brush: Bluebeard Doubloon Soap: Palmolive Shave Stick Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Second shave with the MMOC. This is a wonderfully efficient razor, I don't think I have ever had my cheeks this smooth... They're virtually BBS after WTG & XTG. The problem area under my chin (where the stubble is always visible unless buffered aggressively) is virtually BBS after XTG & ATG. I actually have a DFS all over, but I can feel a little burn all over and have a couple of weepers through over shaving spots with no lather (despite the Palmolive delivering its usual excellent slickness). I have also discovered a part of my neck that needs a different direction to achieve a closer finish. Overall, I am really pleased with the shave considering my inexperience with the MMOC and single edge razors in general. I think that with a little bit of time on this razor (and quite a lot less pressure) I'll be getting me some BBS shaves for the first time ever! Enjoy your shaves gents!
Congrats on the progress, James! I'm using the MMOC tomorrow for the first time in quite a while. Going to be an adventure!
That's the one Jim. Since I already have two of the Tuxedo knots, I thought it would be nice to try something different this time. The knot should look pretty good with the vintage handle.
You'll do brilliantly! I have to say that the razor is not deserving of its reputation - user error is all that is to blame with it! My mild burn is testament to that!
