Awesome shot, Clint! What are your thoughts on the Balsamic water?
PS- My SV has shipped...can't wait.
Great job with the MMOC, Perry. Agree on the MMOC- it can bite used incorrectly, but it is a fine shaver.
Another beaut, Jim. Ready to rank your Stirling stable yet?
Thanks for sharing your story, John. Congrats to you and Sherri as well.
Great shot, Andrew! Love the unique swirling on the bakelite handle as well.

Hey... did all you guys plan the Lemony Orange today? My goodness.

    Thank you, Gentlemen.
Ironically, two of the worst DE or SE cuts I've had have been on areas I wasn't even shaving- ear and nose. Yeesh.

    jluc smelling pretty

    Thank you, Jason.
As far as the Stirling scents, there's only one that has been a clunker for me and that's Port Au Prince. I enjoy the others. To my nose Dunshire and Sandpiper are similar enough that I wouldn't buy both in full size pucks. Piacenza and Satsuma are similar enough that I would choose just one puck, yet they are different enough that I would have both aftershaves. I have Eskimo Tuxedo soap so I probably won't buy the full sized tub of SDM. Executive Man and Mountain Man will be full sized purchases in the future. I really like Stirlings take on Bay Rum so it's likely to be a full size purchase. Barbershop is right there too. I like Bergamot Lavender but I'm up in the air if it will be a full sized purchase. There are so many wonderful tobacco scents I don't know if Gentleman would make the cut. Iced Pineapple is nice but wouldn't be a go to. Lemony Orange will always have a place as long as Stirling keeps making it.
Those are the scents I remember off the top of my head. As always YMMV.

Thanks Jim. No so much as skin "irritation" just slight "tingling". Was gone after the shave.

Suffice to say, I think I have found how NOT to shave. I went straight N-S followed by straight S-N and jawline touch up. My face feels horrific, not even a particularly clean shave. The words I seek to type are not permitted on family forums... So I'll opt for this...

Thanks for sharing the photograph and memories, John. Also congratulate to Sherri and you on reaching 22 years in an era when the average length of a marriage is now somewhere between 3 and 5, IIRC. It may be that what you learned in your first marriage has helped you there and is also therefore part of Mary Ellen's gift to you.

Lastly, this community doesn’t tolerate you if you get a bit maudlin and go off topic, because there is no such thing here as being off topic, or for that matter, maudlin. That's why I am still here for one -- so far, this place has not only taught me to shave and made experimentation with vintage razors interesting and fun, it has helped me through the aftermath of the death of my father, the slow decline and death of my mother, and about four months with a broken leg...

I can't remember when I last read such an eloquently informative post about a shaving problem. What got yo do you think? Was it a change in shaving direction or more a problem with a different razor - the 1912?

Ha! I shaved with the 1912 again today - the EXACT same setup as my best ever shave yesterday. Cold water included. I took care with my angle and pressure. I'm sure it was the fact that I decided to change up my pass directions... I usually go N-S on face, S-N on neck followed by Ear- Nose on face, N-S on jawline, finished off my j-hooking the jaw n-s-ear-nose. I won't be deviating from my standard shave pattern again any time soon.
I did however notice a bit of a tingling with the cream as a lathered up... Might be time for a few days of the plain, cooling Palmolive. I will also be using a fresh blade tomorrow.

How are you able to tell you smell nice when you're missing your nose? ;)

Sorry about the slice, Jason. That's one reason I don't love the Gem SEs. With their size and how clumsy I feel when operating them, I am always afraid my nose is going to take damage.

Thank you Jason. I like Balsamica pretty well. It is very herbal with a thyme and rosemary like scent. Reminds me of a herb Mediterranean herb garden scent. The scent does not really project and doesn’t seem to last that long. The skin care properties are great. I tend to use it with Fougere type soaps. I might try a Fougere type aftershave or balm next time.
