Great choice of equipment for the start of the month, Neal! Didn't you forget something though? Shouldn't there be a disclaimer in there that Sharp Stars are horribly dangerous and should only be used by trained professionals under controlled circumstances and not by the casual hoi polloi?

James @jtface just said: "Cool stuff! The polish and Brasso might well make quite a big difference! You'll be requiring the silky smooth, lubricating finish from Delta Echo I see! Serves you right for your enabling tactics! :p"

No, No, No, James! You aren't allowed to Enable me back! That's not fair! :( Uhmm... what's the website address for Delta Echo again? I seem to have misplaced it...

Actually, I think I would be more likely to have these sort of razors replated in Nickel, Gold or Rhodium by someone like Chris at Razorplate or one of the other plating services.

Ummm.....yeah....thank you for that reminder. What was I thinking? Only those certified as Sharp Stark experts should attempt such a shave. Please, if you have Sharp Stars don't get confused and think they will work. They won't. A few of us just have the necessary certification and authority from Cartel engineering to handle them. Continue to send them here. Directly to me. I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt.

Much better ... I was getting worried there for a minute that perhaps the earlier warnings had been misleading or something. ;)

Well, I spent some of tonight with the metal polish and my box of junker OC razors to see what I could do. I had a few discoveries and surprises this evening.

The first was that the can of Brasso was empty. :( :angry032: :angry019:

Second, AutoSol is not bad as a metal polish but I don't think it works as well for little brass bits and pieces as the more liquid Brasso does. I tried it on a couple of the brass razors and wasn't greatly impressed with the results. Tomorrow I will go out and get a new can of Brasso and try that.

Third, however, AutoSol does work quite well in removing silver tarnish.

Which led to my surprise for the night -- my two grungy Old Types that I have had in my rotation. The Single Ring and a Ball End. Both were silverplated at one point but I thought the plating had flaked off in huge patches, because there were a few areas that were bright and seemed to be plating that were interspersed with areas that were dark and seemed to be underlying no-longer-plated metal. And the tops of the caps were dark. I have been considering sending them off to be replated. When I applied the polish, though, I found that the patchiness was not flaked off plating but layered tarnish. After about half an hour of elbow grease, what I now have are two old silverplated razors in almost perfect condition -- no need for replating, because the original plating is completely intact!

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Personna
    Razor: Schick B1 injector
    Brush: Ever Ready 100T badger
    Soap: Soap Commander Fortitude
Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Tobacco Bay Leaf aftershave

Tobacco Tuesday with Fortitude from Soap Commander and the Tobacco Bay Leaf splash from Jeeves of Hudson Street. Nice and easy shave. The B1 injector is smooth and comfortable and virtually silent. No velcro sound with this razor. Really enjoyable all around.

    Have a great day!

Very nice work. Those two razors look outstanding. I seem to recall there is a way of removing the tarnish from silver with a soaking in a solution and aluminum foil. I’ll try to find the thread.

    Tobacco Tuesday!

Great shave this morning! Two pass with touch up. DFS.

I loaded my brush about half the time as I did yesterday and still had twice the lather needed. The Henri et Victoria tallow took a lot of water, a surprising amount. Nice and slick with a wonderful scent.

    Have a great day![IMG]
