I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it at least not obviously seen. I think it’s just that aggressive.but then again I really have no clue how to tell if there is something wrong with it anyway. The curve of the top makes for a steep angle before the blade makes contact.

I will have to look at that I’m thinking it’s the angle the blade once the cap is put on.

When I first read the post about the No No Variation, I thought I could basically dismiss it as having no chance. 30 of each? Move on, nothing to see here. Then I started to add things up. Soaps/Creams? Yup, can do it no problem using samples too.
    Splashes/Balms? Added them up...24. 24?...$&@?!.
Razors...21...and I’d still grab a New Improved or Senator if I saw one in the wild. Sigh.
Brushes? Whew. not even close, can’t even get through two weeks...on that one.
I think I’m going to pull down my Den link. I’m embarrassed. Time for some PIFs.

You know, Randy, you've been very generous ever since you joined the 30DC. I have a lot of vintage razors of various kinds. If there are any vintage models you are curious about, let me know, and if I have one, I will send it to you to try. New razors, I don’t have many, but if you're curious about the Rockwell 6s or Supply Provision Single Edge injector, you're welcome to try them too. Just PM me.

Now I really feel great about my addictions. I don't have 30 of anything. I purge when I get around 25 off any one category. It makes me nervous. I know a touch of OCD. At least that is what the girls and wife tell me.

Well I came home early today to make sure Mocha was ok. I decided to go ahead and set the knot.

Mine snuck up on me, clubbed me over the head with a 30mm brush handle, and stuffed my pockets with razors. That's what I am telling my wife anyways.

Gillette Ball End Old Type / Astra SP ( 4 )
APShaveCo U - Brush with 24mm SynBad fan knot
    Hendrix Classics Barbershop soap
Alum and Hendrix Classics Barbershop balm test jar

Today I moved on to one of the Old Types I just cleaned. This one is dated 1916 and is pure brass now with no plating of any kind. Maybe gold washed originally? Before I went into law, I studied history at university. I find it almost awe-inspiring to realize that this razor was made during the height of WW1 and may well have first been used by a soldier of that war. And here I am, 102 years later, almost a century after the guns of that conflict fell silent, enjoying a great shave from that very same razor. In a homelier way, it's the same sensation I get when I fire a milsurp rifle at the shooting range.

And it was a great shave today - one pass to a near BBS with silent alum. Superb razor.

Come to think of it, there were some Sharp Star blades left too. Was this the cartel? Its hard to tell when they don't leave cookies.

Wonderful post. I am a big history buff and have the same feelings when I use older razors. Who owned it before me? What did they do? What was their story? It's fascinating.

I think it turned out very well. The handle is filled with 2 part epoxy putty and 6 9mm projectiles from my reloading supplies which gives it a good solid feel.

Start with Dawn dish liquid and an old tooth brush. Dawn is great for removing soap scum, oils, most anything stick to the razor. An old toothbrush will be soft, and gets into crevices and knurling. When I bring a dirty vintage razor home the first thing is hot water and Dawn - just let it soak until the water cools down, then scrub with the brush. If it's a TTO open and close it to get the detergent into the workings. For sticky TTO's alternating Dawn and Mineral oil seems to break up gunk from inside the razor. Don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, but I've heard they get it done quicker. Someone also damaged a razor with an ultrasonic but I forget how it happened. After you have cleaned off other people's grime a polish may help, but keep in mind you are applying an abrasive. Brasso, Mother's, Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound - different size particles but all grind the surface of the metal to polish it. Great way to loose silver or gold plating because they were very thin.

    Thanks, gentlemen!

I was just thinking about my post directed to Randy @BaylorGator about vintage razors. I was wondering: would there be any interest in a passaround? If there is and if someone here could help me by setting up a thread for it, I would be happy to do up a box of mostly Gillette vintage razors.

I am thinking: Gillette Old Type OC, Gillette NEW Long Comb, Fatip Grande OC, pre-War triangle slot Tech, later Tech, SuperSpeed, Red Tip, Blue Tip, Aristocrat, English Aristocrat Jr. and English Rocket.

Each person could have the box for a couple weeks to try them, then pass it on. Last person ships it back to me.

    Comments?

Edit: I could do ones with the Rockwell 6s and/or Supply Provision Single Edge injector but I think those would have to be individual razors due to their cost.

Great write up. I know exactly what you mean. I often think about the journey my vintages have taken as well.
Coincidentally, much of my undergraduate work was in History as well, John.
