My first thread. ;-) The Mongoose 2 SS has caught my eye but I understand availability may take a bit. In the interim I ordered ATT's SE head with both the 1 and 2 baseplates. Curious of what's on the market currently, what SE users experiences have been and favorite/go to head/handle/blade combos.
Congrats on your first thread! I have a RazoRock Black Hawk and quite enjoy it. Can't compare it to any others as I haven't tried the more expensive models, but the Hawk is affordable and certainly efficient and effective. Many guys on here can help you out. @clint64, @Douglas Carey, @Str8on2, @Jayaruh all come to mind.
The General Razor in any of its forms is great. Paired with a Feather Pro it is mild but efficient. However, the Feather Super Pro makes the General more efficient while still being smooth. The Blackland Sabre is a fantastic modern Gem razor. Blackland will soon have a Artist Club SE razor as well. That is the one I am most interested in at the moment.
Congrats on your first thread. I had the opportunity to try a Mongoose Alumigoose about a month ago, and I really liked it. I knew that I could not afford one though. I took a look at the RR Black Hawk and decided I could afford that. I dubbed it the poor man's Mongoose. It is a fine razor. http://jrshaving.blogspot.com/2018/08/mongoose-alumigoose-and-razorock-black.html
I have one razor using an AC blade, an Ikon El Jefe head, which was sent to me by @Kypros Christodoulides. After some handle swapping, I settled on this handle as it pairs well with the head. I currently use Schick Proline P-30 blades and get BBS shaves in two passes with a little touch up.
I have exactly one modern single edge, an alumigoose. It gets a big fat thumbs up from me. Full disclosure - I much prefer the lighter weight of the aluminum. You may or may not. I got the one-of-everything pack from tryablade.com. The Feather AC pro was awesome. My favorite of the three that I've tried so far. Unless that changes, that's what I'll be buying in the future. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you sooner or later how the razor compares to others.
Well, keeping an eye out for the Blackland Vector, and Mongoose 2 SS but couldn't resist getting ATT's SE1&2 baseplate head combo to start trying SEs.
For some reason the Supply provision razor V1 or V2 $79.99> looks like a great razor and are made of stainless steel and use the Schick injector blade that is still being MFG in USA, China and Japan. The razor is made in Texas, I don't own one but it seems like a winner IMO. https://getsupply.com/ I have a Schick E2 & E5 and are very great SE razors.(it just doesn't get better)
Great information. Eventually I'd like to get the collection to cover all blade types; started w/ DE which has the most abundant blade options. Just picked up the AC SE , likely will try an Injector down the road and eventually a GEM, mostly driven by number of blade options.
