    October 10 SOTD:

    Razor: PAA Ascension SS
    Blade: Voskhod
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft
    Lather: Speick Shave Stick
Aftershave: Aqua Velva Ice Blue/Musk mix
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Unscented PSB

I ditn't he 1/4 turn adjustment on the Ascension, and @Linuxguile was right. This razor really does well set up like this. It is a bit different than several other adjustables, as this obviously changes the tension on the blade and the angle of the blade. It gave a bit more blade feel and made it a bit more efficient. A very nice shave. I hope everyone has a great day!

Nice photo, Jim! Makes me want to try the Speick shave stick. I have the after shave and quite enjoy it.

Thank you, Clint! I counted this morning because I was thinking about @Drygulch and his "use every razor I own" idea. I have about 20 injectors and SEs, so I wouldn't even make it through one month, but they work well for me and I enjoy rotating through them.

I read a thread on the Zenith B27 boar brush here on TSD and within a few minutes ordered in to give a try. I have had several Zenith boar brushes with 27mm knots of varying lofts from 57-61mm. This little chubby beast is 28mm x 55mm. As such it is not anything like an Omega 49. This not does not splay much at all and has all the backbone I can ask for. I’ll keep using the brush until it’s broken in for final judgement but I can already say it might dethrone the Soap Destroyer for eating soap. Otherwise an uneventful near perfect shave.

My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by the storm.

Thank you Jim. It will be interesting to see how this beast breaks in. At least it didn’t remove a layer of skin this morning while face lathering.

First a quick catch-up... I had an early day yesterday, so I shaved Monday night with my older Schick B1 and a Proline B blade. A nice shave with no issues.

    October 10, 2018

Razor: Gillette New Deluxe w/Tuckaway handle
    Blade: Nacet Stainless (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Williams
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Time to get back on the OC focus, this time with a razor I've never used before. The New Deluxe Tuckaway is a user-grade razor which is part of a "take a razor, leave a razor" pass-around from another forum. I decided to try it as it was one of the only ones that I had never used before. (The others include a Canadian OT, an unbranded German OT clone, a Red Tip SS, a Black Handle SS, and a MingShi adjustable.) I already have too many OTs and a Red Tip and have a MingShi coming my way one of these days, so I'd really been eyeing the New Deluxe. (Having a partial Criterion New Deluxe on my desk taunting me doesn't help.)

Things started very nicely and I was already thinking about glowing accolades. Then, I put the razor down wrong on my chin and felt the unmistakable bite of the blade. It was a complete technique fail but enough a stumble that I never totally recovered from. In the end, it was a nice close shave, but with four weepers and a cut that required the styptic pencil.

I'm thinking that I may still keep the New Deluxe as my "take", however, and am already thinking about what to do differently next time (like swapping to a longer handle). Ironically, I'll probably end up sending the only razor to bloody me worse in its one and only outing- the Pearl OC TTO (a nice razor, just not for me). Lest you think that I'd dump junk on a pass-around, however, I also plan to include the New LC-based Goodwill which was part of a recent lot (good user condition, just little remaining gold).

Well, there is always tomorrow... :)

Here's a newly developed focus whenever I use Aqua Velva-try to work with that large peephole in order to avoid pouring out much more than needed. I did a better job with it today than before.

You two just need some bigger brushes. Attack it with a destroyer class or better and that soap will lose its ability to regenerate.
    Excellent shave, Neal!
Superb photo , Perry! I love the color matching with the G5 and the Blue Barbershop!
    Another awe inspiring photo, Jim!
Glad it worked well for you, Jim! Fantastic photo!
I though that was a new brush, Clint! If it continues to impress will you transplant the knot ?
Too bad for the bad set down, John. I've not had the pleasure of shaving with a New Deluxe. But if its anything like the New Improved I can see how it could be bitey.

    Generic Israeli Personna
Yaqi Moka Express (26mm, Frigate Class)
Mickey Lee Soapworks The Drunken Goat

Excellent shave this morning with a new brush, soap, and razor head combination. The Yaqi Moka Express brush has a nice dense knot that is set with a relatively low loft. It was really able to dig in to the MLSW Drunken Goat while super goop loading. The Drunken Goat turned into a rich thick creamy lather in my hot scuttle. The scent on The Drunken Goat is quite interesting, I'm not able to pick out the Guinness but I do get a sweet vanilla-cherry-chocolaty vibe. It smells to me like a chocolate cherry Dr Pepper, if such a thing were to exist. The lather was superbly slick and made a great base for the above average aggressive razor head combination to do its work. 3 passes and no need for touch up as the baby was waiting as the last stroke fell. Have a great day my friends!

Declan certainly is growing! Great shave. You could go to Sonic and order a chocolate cherry Dr. Pepper as they have flavor additives. A buddy back in college ordered a chocolate Mountain Dew....once.
