Final shave before the road trip. I stayed with the setup from last night with the exception of the soap. I haven't used the BoS for awhile so it needs a turn. Using this soap (And AS) always brings a smile to my face. Good times back in July. It's about time we start thinking about next summer. (Like the foreshadowing there?) More on that when I return to civilization.

I couldn't resist staying with the Canuck for another shave. I have to admit the flattop style of the brush had me a bit concerned but no reason to be. It's a lather monster and feels amazingly soft yet has plenty of backbone. And with the custom handle - definitely a keeper. Not only did I win that bet - I won it BIG time.

Leaving STL in about 5 hours so hopefully I'll sleep a few of those. We'll arrive in the big town of Hugoton, Kansas around 2:30 or 3 tomorrow. Visitation at 5pm, Graveside at 10am Monday, then back in the car to do it in reverse. Curious about Hugoton? And who wouldn't be, right? Check a map on Google. And look 11 miles Northeast of Hugoton for a little town just down the road. The name fits with the whole made up wannabe Russian thing. Don't tell me life isn't connected.

One more before I try for some sleep. Thought it was appropriate to show off my "big 4" lineup of synthetic brushes, all connected to this forum and thread. In the order I added them to my collection:

1. Jayaruh #46. I won the first pick in one of the raffles and this brush was one of the prizes. I made it the first prize taken that raffle and have loved it. Great Maggard synthetic knot and @Jayaruh always produces a fantastic wooden handle to match it up. Well worth the price of the raffle tickets. Also, this was my first Jayaruh brush and my first synthetic as well.

2. 30 DC Limited Edition from @jtspartan . Maple handle, Tuxedo knot. I think those of us who got these brushes would all agree they are great. We had a choice of knots and stains on the handle so not only are they LE by design but individually as well. Nice!

3. Jayaruh #54. I adopted this brush. I had been wanting a Rubberset 400 style handle and this one showed up available. I grabbed it about 10 seconds ahead of someone else if memory serves. Maggard style synthetic knot, great balance, feel, and looks. And it adds class!

4. The Canuck. Another @jtspartan maple handle, and the AP Shaveco SynBad knot. Also my first and only flat top. Won it on a bet and can't say enough good things about it.

I also have two other synthetics, both Stirling brushes, and while they are great brushes they don't hold either the uniqueness of these 4. Nor do they hold the connection to the various people involved with these brushes. I have no idea what these four would sell for but I do know they are priceless in my eyes. And will be a part of my shave den for as long as I'm around and able to shave!

 

Sunday Shave: In an Old Spice mood so a non focus shave

I have a puck of vintage Old Spice shave soap so of course it resides in a vintage Old Spice shaving mug. While this soap has lost almost all of it's scent the performance is still top notch, as good as anything I have every tried. It feels similar to AoS tallow without the clay smell. I just a dash of Old Spice AS to the lather and I am good to go.

Realized it’s been almost two months since I used a straight razor. Grabbed a Crandall Cutlery 5/8. This is a Case related family band and a hard one to find. It is clad in obnoxious orange scales. Stropped it on my latigo strop, bit did a quick touch up on my Swatty home after one and a half passes.

Used the big boar and a new to me soap today. Got the K Shave Worx soap as part of a package, and like the scent quite a bit. Earthy orange with a little spice is the best I can come up with to describe it. Loaded the big boar, and got a dense lather, and enough for at least six passes. I did 4, and have a DFS plus. Lather was easy to build and pretty slick. Held a ton of water. One weeper on the chin. Not a bad shave. Finished it off with some Tangerine creeper, from a bottle that isn’t ridiculous. Good shave!

 

Thanks for the info gents! I suppose it would indeed be easy to pick up a couple more Schick Gs as opposed to the Supply if I was concerned about lasting a lifetime... I am wanting to make sure that I have enough of a limited setup to set my son up for life (maybe even blades!) when he starts his journey - he has only just turned 5, but there's nothing wrong with planning ahead!

 

As I said, I quite like the Supply myself. Also, Patrick and Jennifer, the owners of the small company, are very decent to deal with. So if you are wanting to get yourself a spiffy modern razor, it's certainly a good choice. Just don’t expect a vast improvement over the shave you get with your Schick -- much like the modern stainless steel DE razors don't offer a hugely better shave than a vintage Gillette.

Wow, what a great title for a shave soap! (Hump Day-Perfect Wednesday scent). I'm not sure I'd want a Monday scent though, lol.

 

3 shaves in with the Regiment and already the suds are entering the picture! Great sign for me because I look forward to getting more Reggies later.

Excellent shave to start of a busy Sunday. The C40 whipped up the MdC easily. The smokey and earthy scent of Vetyver lasted throughout the shave. I really enjoy this scent. Three passes and touch ups ended with the little guy escaping. A splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Clint @clint64, beautiful job on that brush! And your photo reminds me that I still haven't cracked my MdC - the packaged jars are so elegant it seems a shame to mar the soap surface...

Jim @Norcalnewb, nice filter effect again today.

Paul @Paul Turner, good to hear the Regiment soap is treating you well. I remember when he was here that @RetLEO64 was a big fan of Regiment soap.

Moving away from the New Deluxe, I decided to go with one of its cousins from across the pond. A nice close shave with no issues and no blood.

 

It definitely is a different beast. In some ways, it reminds me more of the modern CNC razors, as opposed to a vintage one. I kind of wonder what the Gillette engineers had in mind when they created it.
