The irony, of course, was that his loving spouse/family probably gave him the Big Boy as they couldn't understand why he'd keep shaving with that beat up razor in its stained cloth case. :)

As I've said previously, I have a special curiosity/fondness for the non-plebeian razors- the ones intended as special gifts (Aristocrats, Milords, etc.). I feel like there must be some genuine stories behind them beyond "I needed a new razor, so I bought one".

That... or they were the epitome of expensive gifts that required no thought. (Right up there with the carton of cigarettes in the special Christmas packaging.)

    Great B&W shot today!

Thanks, Jason. They are the best of the bunch. I think the worst is a triangle slot fat-handle Tech that has permanent corrosion on the baseplate.

I see you went B&W too today...

Like the fountain pen, the razor would be a gift that could only be given once as it's so durable. But I suppose it would be a change from the otherwise standard socks or tie...

I had to give this one a touch up on the coticule this morning. It’s shaving nicely again.

I was also inspired by Joseph's @Primotenore post yesterday to pull out the Tabac (aka retirement home soap). Soused and bloomed and super gooped the resulting lather was super creamy, shiny, and slick. What you see on the brush is what was left in it after building and applying the lather for the first pass. The SBS is such a weighty razor especially when paired with the SS Ikon Bamboo handle. Today I used the milder side of the base plate and had an easy smooth shave. Tabac is so slick! The performance can really stand against any artisan soap out there. Three passes for a DFS on a blade that probably should have been changed out after the last shave. It wasn't tuggy or rough, just didn't shave as close as it could have. I finished up with some Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill PSB to cover up the "old man" smell. Have a great day my friends!

    Vintage Williams~~Semogue~~Gillette Parat~~Perma-Sharp~~Floïd Blue
Today, being Wednesday, I opened my cache of shave goodies and fished out a brand new, really old box of Williams.
    :angry017: I have only 9 remaining in my stash.:angry017:
    IMG_8155.jpeg

Yep, it's old. Before ingredients were listed, so Tallow is the first ingredient.
I decided to eschew my normal process, which is the @GDCarrington Vintage Williams Project.
    https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-vintage-williams-project.45842/
This time, I simply grated the puck and pressed it into an after market container.
    IMG_8156.jpeg

Now, this'll irritate our friend Fuzzy @wchnu but I did bloom the soap with a small amount of water
(just enough to cover the surface)
Keeping it "Old School", I chose my well-worn (thank you, son :angry019:) Semogue 620 and proceeded to create
nothing short of MAGNIFICENT lather. Boom-baby.
I say this often, but it bears repeating. These old tallow soaps are terrific; even the simple scent of the
Williams is pleasing---no frills, just great lather.
I might catch some heat for this, but today's "artisans"
have yet to invent a better mouse trap.
    To the shave...
I continued with yesterday's Perma-Sharp blade inserted in my Gillette Parat.
The cheek irritation is not gone yet, so I was extra careful not to make it
    worse.
    Three passes...no issues.

Finished with a healthy spray of Floïd Blue.
Honestly, I still have three unopened bottles of this juice and I wonder if I'll live long enough to use it up :signs002:
