The way I have mine is with chromium oxide on one side and iron oxide on the reverse side. You can make it into a thin paste and rub it into the balsa and let it dry for a few days before use. I use it about every 5/10 shaves depending on the razor.

I have bought powder from Whipped Dog and paste from a shop called RazorandMore on Etsy. I find the paste much easier to work with, just pick up a cheap linen strop to apply it to. I also recommend the firehouse strops, you can find them on Etsy from TomoNagura. Look for the flax linen firehouse strops.

I wanted to toss my two cents worth into this conversation about injectors and blades.

First, James, I may be a minority here but I don't honestly notice much difference between a Schick E2 or G1. It might be something that varies from razor to razor. My favourite old Schick though is an E2, because I like being able to open the head. I also have several Gs, and without checking the lever, I can't tell which model I'm using. Now the PAL Injectomatic I borrowed from Jason @jtspartan, that very definitely did have a more pronounced blade feel than the Schicks. My own feeling would be that if you want to try something more aggressive than a Schick G, look for a PAL Injectomatic or else a PAL Adjustable (and then set it at the Heavy end of its dial). A Schick E2 just isn't going to do a whole lot more for you, in my opinion. Of course, it's also possible that I just got an unusually mild E2...

Blades: I use modern Personnas, older Schicks (I bought a few bag lots of Schicks on eBay and they all seem to have been pre-Chinese manufacture, just the way it turned out), and vintage PAL Stainless. On the first shave, the Personna seem a bit harsher than the others perhaps, but after that they all feel the same. When I run several injectors at once, I usually have different blades in them, and without going back and checking my postings here, I would have no idea from the feel which was which.

Blade longevity: I figure 7 to 10 shaves with an injector blade of any make. If I use one until the blade starts feeling dull and tugging, it can be more than that. I figure a week out of a blade is fine though, so if using a single razor, I will change blades on the weekend.

As I think I mentioned once, Supply Co sells those 20-blade Personna cartridges for its injectors and tells customers a blade should last 7 to 10 shaves and a cartridge should be good for about six months -- which is 9 shaves a blade. My experience is in line with that. Doesn't seem to matter what injector I am using either - Schick E2, G, L or PAL Adjustable or Supply Co Single Edge - the blades seem to last about the same.

    October 23

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Stirling Iced Pineapple
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

I had a rather rude awakening today as I noticed some irritation on my neck and just under my chin along my goatee line. A little redness that showed up. This was as my day started at work. Not sure if I was a bit heavy handed with the Fatip last night (Though the alum was quiet) or if it's a reaction to something. Whatever the case I kept an eye on it and made sure to keep the pressure off tonight. Another night with the Fatip which can be a biter and the Sharp Star. Yuck. Can't stand it. Please send me yours to save yourselves. I love you guys. I'll sacrifice my face for yours!

Switched over to Stirling Iced Pineapple with the JR54 and was rewarded with the usual luxurious lather and every time I smell this soap I just flat love it more. Not sure how Rod gets that kind of rich and lively scent but he does. Two passes, some touch up and the baby popped right up. I put the alum on a little thick tonight especially in the areas that turned up a bit red and got only a couple of stingers out of it. The Fatip can trick you into believing it's doing no harm. Overall, though, I'd say it was an excellent finish and other than the stingers there was no other burn.

I'm sorry to report I am not the Mega Millions winner. I had a special message all ready to go just in case. It was a different message than I had ready for work, in that the message for here did not include a picture of my bare ass. Powerball tomorrow - so maybe I'll still get to use it. Have a great Wednesday!
