Got in from the airport last night just before midnight. The flight was delayed out of Vancouver for a few hours. Shaved early this morning but had meetings all day and didn’t have a chance to post until now. It is a real pain to be out of the office for two days. Went back to the Old Type and plugged away some more on the Hendrix sample. Good razor, good soap, nice finish, good shave. My daughter also woke up early and chit chatted with me while I shaved. A nice way to start the day.
I did get some good news when I got home last night, though. After hearing of @Screwtape ’s razor stash, I reached out to John and asked if he had any New Improveds he wanted to part with. We came to an agreement and a beautiful Bostonian was waiting for me last night when I came in the door from the airport. 3 business days from Saskatchewan. The rare cheer for Canada Post!
I’ve been wanting a New Improved for awhile now and cannot wait to shave with it tomorrow. I’m even on OC focus still!
I’m going to try (and probably fail) to catch up on all the action from the thread now. Have a great night all!

Welcome home, Jason, and congrats on scoring the Bostonian. I can't wait to see it in tomorrow's SOTD.

Thanks to the Face Latherers for the tips and tricks. Best one yet! I mushed my stick into a narrow container, bloomed it just a touch, and stuffed the fat badger knot in for a heavy loading. Applied the soap to my beard, dipped the tips of the brush, and got a near bowl lather quality result. The Japanese steel retained enough edge for this shave and I suspect several more. Three passes, a little touch up because I had plenty of lather, and an error free DFS happened. Conversation with John @John Beeman reminded me I have several bottles of the good stuff - Shulton Old Spice AS - so I enjoyed a double splash to finish up.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Stirling Electric Sheep
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

Day three for the Fatip and Sharp Star. The irritation problem I had two nights ago seems to have largely abated. I'm pretty sure I just had too much pressure on that night without realizing it. I grabbed the Electric Sheep tonight for some mutton tallow love and man oh man I felt it. It's kind of hard to describe the difference in a mutton soap compared to the traditional beef tallow. It isn't that it's a lot slicker, more like it's more creamy, luxurious, cushy....something along those lines. And the after-shave face feel is quite luxurious as well. Maybe it's just like adding extra lanolin to the shave. Or all lanolin? I need more info and research will follow. All I know is I'm fairly hooked on mutton soaps now. Not that I am rejecting traditional tallows - because I love them too. But the mutton just adds that next level of excellence. For me, anyway.

Three passes with the electrified soap just because not only is the fell amazing but the citronella/eucalyptus of this soap will wake your senses up. I've stopped complaining about Williams smelling like citronella since discovering this soap. I get it now. It's a scent that has a place in my den. Finish was BBS, I'm content and just finished a late dinner so life is good. Day off tomorrow. Whew! Feels like it's overdue.

I’ve flown Redneck Airlines. For the in-flight meal they passed around an apple and a pocketknife. Those in first class got an R.C. and a Moon Pie.

I agree. That Jayaruh brush would definitely be worth losing an NB for. So that's the brush I officially lost my NB'18 for. Period. As the Czar of the Russian Blade Cartel, I am sure I have no need to explain to you how history texts need to be corrected officially now and then... ;)

Palmolive is indeedy super duper! I love it even more because it costs me 49p per stick... I actually don't know what I can buy for 49p these days (except perhaps a ticket in first class on Redneck Airlines)!

Gillette Old Type Ball End no SN / Astra SP (2)
    JR #320 mahogany / 28mm SynBad
    Stirling Scots Pine Sheep
    Alum and Stirling Coniferous splash

After reading Neal @NCoxSTL rhapsodizing over mutton tallow last night, I was inspired to dig out my new tub of it today to try. The Scots Pine is indeed very piney. It seems much more strongly scented than the Coniferous, although that might partly be the difference between a freshly opened full tub and an older small sample. The lather seemed fairly creamy as I spread it on my face with the big synthetic brush but no more than my other Stirling soaps. Then I ran the razor over it. Holy Cow! or rather Holy Sheep! That stuff is slick! It made my Old Type feel like a Tech!

Two fast passes had me at a near BBS with absolutely no complaints from the alum. My face felt like I could have done a third full pass without relathering, just running the blade on the residual slickness. That is a seriously cushiony soap!

I finished with a dash of the Coniferous splash to keep the Northern vibe going.

Hope you all have a great Thursday.

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM Pushbutton
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Green
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Baker Street aftershave

Finished off the Stirling Green sample (@Drygulch), but it wasn't 1oz or more so don't feel it necessary to put it down on our finished list. This was a partial sample that @PickledNorthern sent me along with some other goodies last Spring.

Wonderful shave. The Pushbutton with fresh GEM blade was terrific and all worked together nicely. Smooth and comfortable.

Tomorrow will be Fat Friday of course, and then I'm embarking on a Williams mini-focus. I have a 1.3 oz puck of Williams and have inserted it in a mug. Will use it and see if I can work some magic and get stable and consistent lathers. One way to find out!

    Enjoy your day!
