Yesterday was a very busy work day. I didn’t even shave, much less check in. It always amazes me how far behind I get on the thread if I miss a day. Just caught up.
This morning was a nice shave with the straight that started it all. This is still one of my favorite razors. It’s a great performer.

Thank you, Jason! Tell her she has the best of it all with concert and jazz only. Marching band is a buggerboo.

One trip down. Kids sounded pretty good but the acoustics are way different than our rehearsal room or school auditorium. Pretty boomy in there. Oh well, it'll still be fun.

I don't like to brag, Joseph, but I play First Jug in the local orchestra. When the First Fiddler ain't available to play (he spends a night here and there in jail), the Conductor always steps over and gives me the High Five after each selection. And yes, we play both types of music - Country and Western. Maybe I'll come up your way and play a spell sometime.

Beautiful setup today, Joseph. The Ranger Tech is beautiful, and like you, I love Mike's soaps - definitely in my top 5.

    Razor: Yaqi DOC
    Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

For today's shave, I decided to go with the Yaqi Double Open Comb (DOC). This is also known as the Yaqi Mellon Razor after the man who patented the original DOC design. (I have to admit, however, that the name makes it sound more like a unitasking culinary tool.) It's a lot like an OT but with a bit more blade feel.

Not a lot to say, just another great shave with no issues.

What do I do when I have a razor I don't like to use, is of questionable safety, and should probably be binned? I send it to @NCoxSTL. PM me and I'll share the address. Just include a note that says "I dare you!!!" and it results in an entertaining SOTD report.

Is that the razor you found in St. Louis at the meet up?

    Razor: Ever Ready 1912 (USA)
    Blade: GEM PTFE (1st use)
Brush: Ever Ready w/ 24mm Tuxedo knot
    Soap: TOBS Peppermint
    Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive

    A wonderfully uneventful 2 1/2 pass shave ended with a DFS+
I did notice that the GEM blade (although on its first outing - which tend to be rougher) didn't seem to cut as efficiently as the Personna injector blade in my Schick G when shaving ATG.
I do love the GEM models though, they give wonderfully close smooth shaves and are very comfortable :) I'll probably dig out the OCMM at some point this week :love029:
I will say... If the Proline injector blades improve the smoothness/efficiency of my Schick G as people say they do... There will be a new champ in the den!

No, this was my first straight that was Piffed to me. It’s a very nice razor that takes a great edge.
