Sounds like a great shave to start off with, and a nice day with the grand daughters! Cool photo and lineup too!

A drive in the mountains would be a wonderful way to spend the day. Very nice photo and setup, Brian. How do you like the Fine Santal Absolut?

Awesome gear in those photos, Keith! The point on the Robert Williams looks like it could bite in a hurry.

hi john, i was on the bay, there is a nickel F serial numbered u.s. army 3 piece razor for sale at present..

Thanks, Gary. And the seller's information confirms my recollection that razors with serial numbers from E to J could be found on military issued razors (with all J razors being military contract). My wrecky parts Old Type is an E series with a good nickel base plate but ruined top cap and questionable cracked handle. So I could swap that good E series base plate for the unmarked one in my case and have a period-correct razor in my Khaki Service Set. It's still not much of a military set, because it's missing the mirror and blade bank, but at least what is there would be right.

very cool,i like piecing together razor sets where i can.a couple of my sets had bad cases or missing parts,so while they are not original per say, they are correct enough for me..plus cheaper than purchasing museum sets..

Thanks Bruce. Our home is progressing well. It's under roof, and the plumbers are working in there now. Next up are the electricians, HVAC installers, and brick layers. We're hoping to get the house bricked before the weather turns cold.

    Razor - Edwin Jagger DE89l
    Blade - sharp-star.jpg
Soap - Stirling 2018 Fair Debonaire St. Louis
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

The fickle finger of fate has spoken. Tonight features the EJ DE89l, one of my earliest razor purchases that I haven't used in well over a year, the Sharp Star, the Wolf Whiskers brush and the LE soap from Stirling I picked up a couple of Sundays ago. Once again the shaving gods have smiled upon me.

This razor is one that was highly recommended for a beginner lo those many years ago and I can say it always performed well. However, tonight's shave was rather epic so I'm thinking that leaving the razor in my shaving box for well over a year and ignoring it makes it work better. Or, it could be the technique I've build up over that time. You decide. Whatever the case, the Sharp Star was a perfect match. The Stirling LE soap is really fantastic to work with and the scent is awesome. Three full passes and I nearly did a fourth just to keep shaving. BBS is the result, alum is totally quiet and I'm looking and feeling great to entertain my drunk guests tonight. So far this random selection hasn't failed me, other than the bad blade last night, but that was probably to be expected.

    Have a fantastic Sunday!

Locking the razor up for a year probably encouraged it to put on a special effort today to see if you could be convinced to let it out to play more often. This is known around here as the TTT theory: "Time Teaches Tools"...

Whatever the cause, it sounds like a great shave. Of course, what will the randomizer inflict on you tomorrow?

Seems I recall ... Joseph @Primotenore making his own Cavendish scented soap? Might have been MWF and pipe tobacco melded into a custom blend.
I do have a bit of some deep dark Cavendish for blending my own, and will be working my way through the soap cabinet watching for a weak, unscented , or complementary soap to give that a try.

Thank you Jason. I was inspired by those that other 30DC have used.
Thanks Clint. I'm careful to not show the top doors in photos. The nickle is in good shape but the gold wash has worn away on the working surfaces. Hasen't affected the service though. It's a good one!
Thanks Jim! All this enabling has given me some top notch choices. I'm working on pairing soaps & AS to see where I have holes in my line up. Only one I know for sure is two sandalwood soaps, no sandalwood AS.
Thanks Bruce! Can't remember the last time I had a bad shave. (I was born on a Friday the 13th so those curse things don't work in me. Knock on wood!) The girls tried to wear me out, but I'm crafty. We fed the ducks, rode our bikes, and they played on the two acre jungle gym while I observed.

Well it can't do too much damage. I didn't list any gear that would create that much havoc. This is about never repeating, not trying to survive. I know. Not as entertaining as some I've done. I need to weigh the handle on the EJ razor. I think it's about the same size as the Grande handle for the Fatip, and if the weight is close enough I may switch it out with the Piccolo handle to try the Fatip in "Grande" mode. But yes, the EJ razor does a very nice job just the way it is.

    Stunning setups, gentlemen!
Thank you, Randy. I ordered the brush for my friend. The handle design and the medallion had special meaning for him, as he's in the process of the getting an Ephesians 6 Armor of God tattoo on his chest, back, and arms. He works in the lumber industry and loves fine woods, so Jayaruh used Brazilian Rosewood for the handle. My friend has a full beard, but he's a head and tattoo shaver. He also has a Weber razor, so he's got a mighty fine starting kit.
Great review, John. This is a wonderful travel kit. I'd definitely re-knot the brush, replace the soap stick, and use it for travel.
