I’m not sure if you Cartel guys drink your own cool aid, or just control the media and education (or re-education). Vive la Glacé!

    Late shave report

Today was the first time I had used the Soap Commander Love in a long time. I was rewarded with slick, protective lather, a moderately strong rose scent, and great post-shave skin feel. It is evident that this soap is made with shea butter. I caught whiffs of a pleasant rose scent for about an hour after the shave. I'm not sure why I picked this particular scent other than it's something quite different for me. This is a top-notch artisan shave soap that comes in a generously-sized six-ounce tub. I see why Soap Commander gets such positive reviews. I will enjoy my run with it.

Monday evening November 5 - Menthol Monday

Gillette Black Beauty on #4 / Nacet (5?)
    Alluminati Envy White badger brush
Renaissance Faire style horn quaich lather bowl
    Stirling Iced Pineapple soap
Alum and Stirling Iced Pineapple splash

    IMG_20181105_184851.jpg

This was my first use of the Iced Pineapple soap and splash. Great scent! Excellent icy face feel. I am not sure this was the best choice for today - about two inches of snow fell last night and it's a little chilly outside - but I guess Menthol Monday is a bit of a tradition on this forum even during the winter. I will definitely be keeping this soap in the rotation for future Mondays and for those muggy hot summer days. Not again this month, however.

I didn't bother to shave yesterday, so I had a good stubble growing tonight. The Nacet in the Black Beauty mowed it all down in two smooth passes. I don't think the alum had any complaints (I couldn't hear it over the menthol freeze). Anyway, I am BBS and a bit teary-eyed from the additional freezing burn from the splash...

One thing that has really impressed me over the last month of trying razors is just how good Gillette's engineering and design was during the DE days. I like some of their razors more than others, but I have yet to use a Gillette in good mechanical condition that has given me a genuinely bad shave. Which is more than I can say for some other razors. In fact, my test question with modern razors, especially adjustable ones is: is it as good as a Fatboy?

With yesterday and today, I was so far behind on the thread I didn't even try to comment on all the photos and reports posted before mine. It was some excellent reading, however.

NOVember - Going for a No Repeat

    Prototype York Patty SC
    T-400 Badger by @Vlasta
    Osaka Suribachi bowl
'55 Red Tip (A-4), Astra SP
    Barbasol Brisk AS
SOTD 11052018.gif Menthol Monday is indeed a thing. Should have pulled this soap out of the fridge last month because it's an oddball. TSD member and fellow Mod Chris @americanshamrock had a couple of us test a prototype shave cream. He made two different scents and somehow I ended up with a decent amount of the "left overs". I don't know if he's pursuing his soap making so I'll abide by the N.D.A. by not divulging the secret ingredient. I think I can admit I keep it refrigerated for the special tallow. This particular tub is York Peppermint Patty scented and heavily mentholated. It smells like it would taste great, a little on your lip gives a numbing tingle - good stuff! Moistened up the T-400 that Steve @Vlasta put together in my shave bowl. When he prototyped the Rubberset 400 replica several members were gifted a sample for feedback so he might fine tune the product. The set of prototypes included one for me, inscribed with my TSD name on the bottom. On the top the marking,"8 8 8" which is a triple lucky number in Asian countries. I think it worked as he's now supplying a UK & European shave supply shop with these brushes. If anyone is interested in owning one, Steve is a Supporting Vendor. So the icy cool lather whipped up well, applied easily, and gave great slickness for the old Gillette. Three passes with no nicks & a high DFS, great post shave moisture from the cream, and a splash of Barbasol inspired by Perry @PLAla. Nice way to settle in on a Monday evening.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Deal. Although getting this bunch sober enough to handle a fine piece of steel like that without slicing and dicing themselves will be a chore. Ah what the heck. Isn't my blood. Yep, it's a go.

    November 5

Razor - Gem 1914 "Little Lather Catcher"
    Blade - CVS Carbon SE
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Ok, shaving gods, I hear you speaking. You said "let's go old school tonight". Right up until you picked the brush - but even then it's kind of a fit as well. Gem 1914 for the SE shave. Love it. This little SE is a very nice old razor to work with. I think I prefer it to the 1912. For the blade? Carbon steel. Old school choice. Nice. The soap? Well if we're going old school nothing says that better than the Turkish wonder - Arko. And the brush? The Canuck? My newest brush? Modern synthetic fan knot in a handmade wooden handle? Ok, I can make that work. Fans were popular back in the day and having a hand crafted brush is as good as vintage, right? Right.

Three full passes as I'm doing on all of these setups this month and the alum is quiet, the baby is in the house, and I loved every minute of this one. The 1914 is very effective and the Canuck worked the Arko into a frenzy. Great shave all around.

Need I remind everyone that tomorrow is election day? No political discussions here but the most patriotic thing I can say is GO VOTE! 'Nuff said. Have a great Tuesday.
